Teen Petric Convicted Of Halo 3 Inspired Matricide
In conclusion to a very sad and disturbing case, a young man by the name of Daniel Petric who shot and killed his mother –over a dispire involving Halo 3– was convicted today of aggravated murder, attempted aggravated murder (of his father) and other charges. The kid also tried to frame his father for the murder by placing the gun in his hand.
The dispute in the Petric household started when the parents discovered the their son Daniel had purchased Halo 3, which they forbade him to do. His father rightfully confiscated the game from his son and placed it in his lock box.
Undeterred, Daniel went into picked the lock to his father’s lockbox where he took both the game and ALSO his father’s 9 mm handgun. He then proceeded to the living room where his parents were sitting, ordered them to close their eyes, and shot them both in the head.
Daniel’s defense attorney’s tried to argue their client suffered from ‘Video Game Addiction’, but the judge sentenced Daniel Patric to life.

Bad call on the judges part. For a child to murder his parents over a 50 dollar game, it seems obvious he isn’t very stable mentally. In fact, any person capable of pointing a loaded weapon at their mother to me seems at least a little disturbed.
People will be quick to point the finger towards the makers of the video, they are merely scratching the surface in order to satisfy their own assumptions. It’s not like the Halo franchise has sold millions and millions of copies. One thing people often forget when trying to swiftly confirm the outcomes they want to hear, is that when dealing with a number of consumers so immense.. the game itself has a very good probability of falling in the hands of people with pre-existing mental disorders.
Many of today’s youth do indeed attach themselves excessively to their video games. When this happens in combination with a person who’s value system is so twisted and damaged as is the case with Daniel here (a preexisting condition) unfortunate events can happen. Of course this is a very isolated case to be placed with a handful of other events where a video game plays a (passive) role in a murder case. Yet people are very eager to predictably accuse the gaming industry without even investigating the matter further.

Simple response. Games aren’t evil, guns are. More gun control. Great failure at swaying someone to conservative ideals.
