My Same-Sex Neighbors Celebrate Nearly Five Years of Marriage

My next-door neighbors, Marcia Hams and Susan Shepard, celebrated the almost 5 year anniversary of the legalization of gay marriage in the great state of Massachusetts. The married couple were of particular interest during the festivities due to the fact that they were the first same sex couple in the state to receive a marriage license.
I ask all of the religious fundamentalists on this site to find the love that is buried deep in their hearts, and feel joy for this couple, as well as the countless other gay couples in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Iowa who have gotten married. I also ask that you extend those warm feelings towards gay couples in Vermont and Maine who will marry later this year, and to all of the other homosexual people in the world.

Too bad all the other comments are not here, but I just want to ask that if you know gay marriage is a sin before the eyes of God?
It is great that these people are able to live in peace, but one day they will have to face eternal judgment. The foul scent of a gay lifestyle will be upon their souls and will offend God. I hope you pray that it’s not so overly offensive he throws them straight into hell to be washed in fires of judgment for all eternity.

There is a federal law against their sin and our Constitution is based on the Bible, so no, it is not allowed. And just because same state legislators have thumbed their nose at our Christian heritage it does not mean these people are beyond the judgment of God. They will be judged and their is no appeal to the verdict of being found guilty with an eternal sentence to hell. I hope they repent before God is forced to judge them guilty for gay. Claire should love them enough to share the word with them so they know what they face should they choose to continue their sin.

It was repealed because it was unconstitutional. Our Constitution was based on the theory of freedom of religion, not Christianity. You misused the word ‘their’, there is no proof that any deity exists. No, the religious text does not count as proof.

Keep in mind that the U.S. Constitution is made to protect and preserve the golden apple, or the Declaration of Independence. God loves all humans, as well (This I learn from non-corrupt churches in America). Since the Declaration of Independence promotes” that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these rights are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness”. Also, let God punish them for their “sins”, not you. I do not exactly support gay marriage, but I am an American; I believe that all humans in America are created equal and they are given natural rights. Why must there be so many disputes currently? It is because there are possibilities of violations of the Declaration of Independence; the preservation mechanism of this nation and its states. Would you like to play a game? I have another hour.

I’d like to congratulate them! It’s nice to know that there are gay couples out there that can be in a relationship openly, despite the hardships they may face from people like the ones that are determined god’s gonna throw them in hell to burn. Hopefully there will be some sort of future where people won’t have to be afraid of being prosecuted for their sexual orientation. Much support towards them and their marriage~

Claire, thank you for this post. I was beginning to fear the worst for there ‘Christians’ who hate gay marriage. I myself do not believe. Yes, I am an atheïst. But I will respect the beliefs of those who respect mine.
So. To the haters, if I follow your logic then:
LOVE is without any doubt a creation of your GOD
HATE is a feeling from the DEVIL (hey, ever read about Jesus hating?)
so if you react with hate to ANY two people LOVING eachother, you are being leaded by the devil, and that same devil is trying to make you believe that you are following GOD’s words.
And please don’t go all Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13 on me, those words are narrow minded and CRUEL, bible or not. Just think about it, WHY would Jesus have said ‘Love thine enemy…’ if he didn’t mean it. And for crying out loud, gays are not even enemies!
