Do you Really Think You’re That Funny, Stephen Colbert?

  • Colberty

Yes, I’m in on the joke. The Colbert Report fake news show is satire. He’s mocking Republicans, Christians, Pro-Lifers, those who believe in the sanctity of marriage and anyone else who doesn’t memorize Rahm Emmanuel’s daily talking points. He pretends to be a Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity and Bill O’Reilly all rolled into one muscled and charming package, while snickering like some mud-smeared child behind the schoolyard jungle gym with his fellow travelers– Jon Stewart, Conan O’Brien and Tina Fey. News reader Keith Olbermann cries his way through the anarchist democrat worldview coherently enough for most common Americans to get a taste of how wrongheaded these proto-socialists of the left can be. But Stephen Colbert’s real danger is that he hides behind parody, never revealing his genuine intentions or emotions . The only thing he teaches is contempt. So journalists like me (let alone the rest of you) have a hard time understanding and rebutting his true values. To most, his parody is unimpeachable and no newsman has dared take down this sanctimonious, vile-tongued hairdo for what he really is.

Well, hold on to your keyboards America because today I’m going to do precisely that!

Let me state this very clearly: Stephen Colbert represents one of the most dangerous trends in America next to Islamic terrorism today! He is slipping a deadly tonic of anarchy and immorality to our children. His nightly show is like an Al Qaeda training camp, indoctrinating fragile minds into a fanatical hatred of American values and arming them with the doublespeak, laziness and opportunism to destroy this country’s economic and moral foundation. Materialism is his Lord, not spirituality, nor any commitment to bettering this country. And Colbert’s need for media attention and control over the young is insatiable.

    Hipster

Mr. Colbert broke into television as the painfully homosexual high school teacher in Strangers With Candy, starring race-baiter Amy Sedaris, a real life pot-smoking former Lesbian prostitute. The show was a buffet dinner of neurotic depravity that sadly found comedy in sexually transmitted diseases, rape, aging, racism, lesbianism, mental illness, Native Americans and more. From there, he joined pundit-perennially-never-ready-for-primetime Jon Stewart as an uptight news reporter. His man of the street interviews were sickly, almost Candid Camera meets Tucker Carlson meets Richard Simmons. They were childish and salacious. Did he ever shed a tear for all those poor ordinary Americans he tricked into making fools of themselves on camera? No, the man only lusts for more televised attention.

    Hipster

When Colbert was introduced to President George W. Bush a few years back, he took the opportunity to grab the podium and turn the spotlight on himself, unleashing a 20-minute tirade of unprofessional and unfunny insults at the President and his wonderful wife, Laura. The two, so incredibly sophisticated and kind, nervously smiled but died a little inside as the night wore on and on and on. It was a truly inappropriate speech and the audience of journalists was filled with scowls and then outright booing. The next day, the liberal world press roundly condemned the so-called comic for his un-American media whoring.

This TV talker even claims to be a man of the Catholic faith, but shows such disrespect for the institution of Christianity and his very own Papal leader, that this is quite possibly another lame joke. In light of the tremendous problems facing that particular church which is ripe with homosexuality and rape in its ranks, he shows zero compassion. He just loves kicking the old dog when it’s down. As long as the cameras are on, that is.

    Hipster

Frighteningly enough, Stephen Colbert is now using his television show The Colbert Report as a platform to foist his liberal and self-aggrandizing views on the country. He has derided the free speech of people who have been invited to share their thoughts at the health care town halls, he enjoyed public drunkenness with homosexual democrat Congressman Jared Polis, he had frank discussions about cocaine use with democrat Congressman Rob Wexler, he went to Iraq to advocate directly to the troops for overtly homosexual servicemen, he tongue-baths every liberal academic with a poorly written book who slithers onto his set, he mocks Black people saying don’t care about race, and he has never once supported the War on Terror.

    Hipster

Also, and this begs a larger question concerning the propriety of the attention he pays to young people, Colbert likes to drink beer and eats chips on his show. Is this some pathetic act of solidarity with his stoned-out-of-their-minds college student audience (who is decades younger than him, by the way). Or does it reveal a deeper character flaw, a lustful need to surround himself with children? Michael Jackson is another celebrity who argued that there was nothing wrong with this type of behavior, giving kids toys, Jesus Juice and a lot of attention. I should say for now we must give Stephen Colbert the benefit of the doubt. He has not yet been formally questioned or charged regarding this and it could be just another phase of his megalomania.

In interviews and on the show, Colbert professes to have invented the type of parody comedy he performs. But critics universally point to George Carlin, the man who taught Generation X to be sarcastic and rude to their parents. Colbert’s work is not even that original. He would be nowhere if Limbaugh, O’Reilly and Coulter had not become so important and famous in today’s political arena. They paved the way for this coat-tail-riding one-trick pony.

    Hipster

Over the last few years, Colbert has subtly been building a cult of personality, Stalin-style! With trinkets, books (remember Mao’s Little Red Book anyone? Anyone?) and artwork. The paintings he has commissioned, much like the ones we saw of Saddam Hussein all over Iraq, portray him as an iconic and heroic figure, draped in the flag and representing some great promise for America. Well, I’ll tell you, Adolph Hitler promised a whole lot to Germany. Anyone remember how that ended? America’s youths don’t… Cults of Personality are always dangerous, they try to get people to disregard the real issues and throw their unbridled and sexualized devotion behind one man, no matter what rabbit hole he may lead them down. Much like Timothy Leary, he has spiked the nation’s water and is leading our children, as innocent as Alice, into a world of evil queens, Mad Hatters and Tweedledums (homosexuals, socialists and weak-minded liberals). You may laugh at his jokes now, but where will we be as a nation when the children force-fed Stephen Colbert’s nasty demagoguery of deception grow up? How will that generation look at the responsibilities of being an American in the age of global terror and overpopulation when all they have been taught to do is lie and snicker?

Thank you for this article, Mr. Billings. I really hate Stephen Colbert and I figure God does too. He’s in cahoots with Jon Stewart and the pale blight Conan O’Brien, who is twice the liberal of Jay Leno. At least Jay Leno was not homosexual and had a decent hobby in his space time.

Also notice how Colbert is feeling up a geriatric in that first picture. Pretty gross.

“Also notice how Colbert is feeling up a geriatric in that first picture. Pretty gross.”

There is no ‘feeling up’ coming from Colbert, only from the lady, who I believe, is a famous comedian.

I only felt like reading the first 3/4ish before I felt sorry for you Billings, then I just stopped, but I will post some things I have to comment on.

“The only thing he teaches is contempt. So journalists like me (let alone the rest of you) have a hard time understanding and rebutting his true values.”

Please tell me you didn’t major in journalism in college? That would make me sad :C, then we know that colleges are really starting to suck at teaching people.

“He is slipping a deadly tonic of anarchy and immorality to our children.”

        Don’t let them watch?

“Mr. Colbert broke into television as the painfully homosexual high school teacher in Strangers With Candy, ”

They key thing you must notice is that he was ACTING, he’s not a homosexual, and you don’t even have to condone homosexuality to act as one in media. I’m pretty sure Colbert is for gay marriage though, I don’t know, it’s not really my business, which it shouldn’t be yours either.

“When Colbert was introduced to President George W. Bush a few years back, he took the opportunity to grab the podium and turn the spotlight on himself, unleashing a 20-minute tirade of unprofessional and unfunny insults at the President and his wonderful wife, Laura.”

I can bet 50$ that he was reading off a script and that the Bush’s had seen the script before.

“The two, so incredibly sophisticated and kind, nervously smiled but died a little inside as the night wore on and on and on”

I’ve got a few corrections to make to this:

“The two, so incredibly unsophisticated and unkind, nervous twats smiled but died a little inside as the night wore on and on and on”

Also, did you ask them if they ‘died a little inside’, which I think would also be against the bible due to them being into witchcraft.

“Frighteningly enough, Stephen Colbert is now using his television show The Colbert Report as a platform to foist his liberal and self-aggrandizing views on the country.”

That’s bad why? I’m pretty sure there are other tv shows that get A LOT more views than his that are A LOT more liberal.

Yeah, that’s about where I read up to before I just couldn’t take your fail anymore :C. I don’t feel like spell checking this either so !!!!!

        • Joe, you are such a fool I don’t know where to begin! First off, I think of the point of this article is to get more people to realize this show is inappropriate for children and that it effects young adults in a real negative way and we should all pay much more attention to this. Secondly, the fact that he played a homosexual, whether it was “acting” or not is beside the point. Colbert willingly took part in some immoral vaudeville show. Like a police record, it’s evidence of his past crimes and ethical lapses. And it’s completely true that the vast majority of his guests are flaming so hot LIBERALS. I don’t know where you dig up your facts, but you’re completely crazy! And so what, Bill O’Reilly sells some very handsome traveling coffee mugs, so what? That is very different than this cult that Colbert has created. I remember Manson and Jim Jones, David Koresh- and that wasn’t fun for any parent!

This is one of the major reasons I have little respect for religion anymore. There may be all sorts of good things that get done because of it, but it really seems the most active and loudest are your kind, sir. The kind who say “I hate Steven Colbert, and I’m sure God does, too.”

You, sir, are the worst kind of Christian. The kind who forms an opinion and claims that God holds that very same opinion. The kind who backs up his arguments by saying that “God is on my side.”

Sir, if you had any clue as to what your religion meant (at least the New Testament version, since the Old Testament God was a jealous, ruthless jerk), there is no room in God’s heart for hatred. To claim hatred for Mr. Colbert and then to follow it up with the suggestion that you and God are tight on this idea is the downright total perversion of your self-proclaimed belief system.

Go read your New Testament again. I’ve certainly read my share. Then go out and try to put into practice those ideas that are actually put forth in the New Testament and hope/pray to be a better person. I, for one, have little hope for you.

It’s okay to brutally repress someone’s freedom of speech as long as they aren’t Christian. Just like how freedom of religion means the freedom to practice any religion as long as it’s Christianity.

“He is slipping a deadly tonic of anarchy and immorality to our children.”

      *facepalm*

Just like “South Park” and “Family Guy”, “The Colbert Report” is not intended for children. In fact, I’m sure that “The Colbert Report” draws even less of its audience from children than do “South Park” and “Family Guy”, considering how it’s not animated and 100% of its content is about current events. Kids who sneak behind their parents’ backs (and some kids have such lousy parents that they don’t have to sneak at all) and watch “South Park”, do so for the fart jokes. Trust me, kids don’t give a crap about a guy sitting behind his desk, making jokes about Helen Thomas.

“the show was a buffet dinner of neurotic depravity that sadly found comedy in sexually transmitted diseases, rape, aging, racism, lesbianism, mental illness, Native Americans and more.”

As someone who has watched the entire series and movie of “Strangers With Candy” several times, I can tell you that there were no episodes that dealt with or made comedy of rape or aging. As for lesbianism, there was never an entire episode devoted to the issue of lesbianism; it was mentioned several times and hinted at many times that Amy Sedaris’ character, Jerry Blank, was bisexual. She even mentioned it herself once, saying “I like the pole and the hole”. However, there was never any more talk about homosexuality or bisexuality than simple hints.

“It was a truly inappropriate speech and the audience of journalists was filled with scowls and then outright booing.”

I watched it several times, and I don’t recall any scowling and booing.

“he tongue-baths every liberal academic with a poorly written book who slithers onto his set”

Have you ever even watched the show? Colbert makes everybody look like a fool on his show, whether they be liberal or conservative.

“and he has never once supported the War on Terror.”

Yes, because not supporting the murder of hundreds of thousands of civilians is so evil.

“Colbert likes to drink beer and eats chips on his show.”

You make it sounds as though during every episode he pops open a beer and a bag of chips and munches as he talks. That is not how he does it at all. Anytime he has a drink in his hand, whether it be alcohol or soda, or opens a bag of chips, he is referencing some news item. It’s a comedy show, you fool.

“Or does it reveal a deeper character flaw, a lustful need to surround himself with children?”

Yes, because only children like beer and doritos.

“Michael Jackson is another celebrity who argued that there was nothing wrong with this type of behavior, giving kids toys, Jesus Juice and a lot of attention.”

Um…unless I’m mistaken, you invited Wayward on a “camping trip” for young boys. I’d be doing a background check on you must faster than on Stephen Colbert.

“In interviews and on the show, Colbert professes to have invented the type of parody comedy he performs.”

      He’s JOKING!

“Over the last few years, Colbert has subtly been building a cult of personality, Stalin-style! With trinkets, books (remember Mao’s Little Red Book anyone? Anyone?) and artwork.”

      • Claire, I must have dated myself in this article. By “children” I meant anyone younger than 30. At my age, everyone seems so young! And yes Family Guy and South Park are truly crude little shows, but they are clearly meant as such and not programs about news and politics.

As for Colbert and the White House Press Dinner, you have your facts wrong. Watching a few clips on Jon Stewart or Youtube doesn’t give you the whole picture (nor the entire audio). A few journalists present talked and wrote about the outrage in the hall that night, but most wanted to forget how awful it was. In fact, there was very little reporting on the whole fiasco at first, it really was that bad. But news gets recycled and cleansed and when it did come out days later, it had Colbert’s stamp all over it. It reputably made him look good!

And while it doesn’t surprise me that you’re a Strangers With Candy fan, I again find your thoughts far from the truth. I’d rather not dive into that immensely morally offensive and disturbing show, it does magically manage to offend every single one of the senses each episode… Sorry, but on second thought, I’d rather not research further into its vile plotlines on what promises to be a beautiful Sunday today.

Finally, I do find Mr. Colbert’s beer drinking and Doritos eating offputting. It’s unseemly to watch a man do that unscripted on television. And it’s unpleasant to hear. Colbert often makes wink-wink jokes about pot smoking and other drugs to his college audience and they really do cheer each time in the studio. I can only draw the conclusions I draw from the evidence before me. It strikes me as one part of a larger pattern of his. That is, to get closer to the young, to insert himself in their lives. And that just doesn’t sit right with me. Nor should it with you.

Oh, I see, you tell me that I’m wrong about the facts of a show that I love, and yet the day is too beautiful for you to tell me exactly what I have wrong about it. How convenient.

Well, judging from your picture, you enjoy your beer and Doritos just as much as Colbert does.

Stephan Colbert is incredibly smart and his show is something that is surely needed in American (and worldwide). Someone needs to call out the hypocrisy of the Christian right in calling for the persecution of (and moral imposition upon) those of other faiths and points of view. His larger than life persona does include many outlandish things (like the Propaganda photos and the recursive picture of him holding his Emmy) but these are done with a wink that the audience understands is mocking the holier than thou patriotism that emanates from the right…

The latest stupid call from the right is that the USA doesn’t have the money for healthcare reform even as it has finished spending $3 Trillion dollars on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Where was the outrage for this? When it was American blood and treasure being spent on something the right pillared the left for not supporting? When will the right wake up to the money (in this case Healthcare money) and fake outrage that is driving the Republican’s political agenda?

You guys seriously look loony from this side of the Pacific, and trust me this is from one of your closest allies… Be careful, you don’t have that many left.

EXCUSE ME, do you REALIZE how patronizing calling anyone under 30 a child is? I am 20 years old. I can vote, I can serve in the military, I can take part in the lottery. I must see a physician, and not a pediatrician. I am a legal adult as prescribed by American law. DO NOT call me, nor my peers children when we are not. That is a LIE and you know it. Don’t say children when you mean 18-35. Say young adults and give us the proper labels at the very least.

Even then, *GASP* WE HAVE BRAINS. We can make decisions on our own that are *GASP* LIBERAL just as much as we can make decisions that are conservative. Frankly, the country is moving in a liberal direction. Give it a generation or two and we’ll be back on track to being conservative because that’s how our country’s political system works.

One last thing, Colbert is SATIRE. Meaning, IT IS A JOKE. Hence, FAKE NEWS. I would like to think this article is satire too. But I’ve com across far too many fools like you who take his show far more seriously than it needs to be. • Catherine, it is not meant to be patronizing when I call people under 30 childish. Many of the comments here show how shallow-brained and immature they are. I think it’s a fair assessment of many of the lives of the Colbert fanatics. Their surreal obsession with a TV character are genuinely an indication of that. And I’m not the only one, many many people are calling 30 the new 20 (http://thedartmouth.com/2007/01/08/opinion/30 — from Dartmouth mag, Stephen’s Alma Mater) and your finances “The Bank of Mom and Dad” (http://www.nytimes.com/2006/04/20/fashion/thursdaystyles/20money.html)

And yes, once again (again and again!), I understand that COLBERT IS SATIRE. I am not a fool, you know. I have seen the show. My article clearing states this from the outset and if you would just calm your little self down and try to wrap that pretty little brain of yours through my article– even the big words, honey!– you might begin to understand my argument here. It’s how far we take Colbert beyond the satire, that I worry. He plants something much more in the fertile minds of the young– cynicism towards moral values, sarcasm towards anyone who embraces greater truths in our society, hatred toward the historical American values on which this country was founded.

And he does it by covertly pushing a radical democrat agenda, an agenda that he sneakily outlines but does not specifically defines so that fools like you who may support late term abortion or federal support for feminist studies or third world condom program believe that he supports them, too. You’re all liberals, so must be in the same boat, right? And yet, we don’t know exactly, specifically what this man believes because he never dares go out on a limb and say something from his heart, speak a truth. It words to his favor, he capitalizes on this ambiguity by cashing your checks and getting your eyeballs all over him.

And in this era of financial corruption, we should be worried about these types of democrats. Just today it was revealed that another Obama-connected democrat millionaire embezzled over $74 million.

As usual, though, you do not respond in any substantive way to the ideas that Colbert or any of the people writing comments bring up. Why not do that, if you are intelligent, as you say.

Start with this: Why did Republicans vote in support of a war which was clearly begun on false grounds? We know, really that the primary reason was you loving, peaceful Christians could not abide by the idea of people of the same sex marrying each other. That’s the bottom line. So, basically what you agree with is that white heterosexuals are God’s chosen people and in order to support that premise you will follow anyone wherever they say to go, whether it means killing or stealing or judging or anything. But you are Americans, and you will eat your fucking fried chicken and buy your big screen tvs to support your politicians killing anyone anywhere around the world as long as those same assholes go to a big mega church on Sunday before the football game and tell you that you are God’s chosen people and to prove it you have an election every four years to chose between Pepsi and Coke and elect another fucking corporate sycophant.

Why not look at why people across the globe hate you and dig a little deeper than coming up with reasons like “They hate our freedom?” Why not consider the fact that you fight wars to open trade for your corporations?

And lastly, will you answer me and for all where does the Bible say that capitalism is God’s way? That is the underlying premise behind all the shit you right wing lunatics push. Justify it, if you can.

The basic motive is that it preserves your position of privilege. But the US is rich not because of some moral superiority but because they stole land from Native Americans and used slave labor to profit from it. So, please, explain your moral high ground.

And God’s prediction that man’s creations will come to destroy bear some repeating here: “Thus were they defiled with their own works, and went a whoring with their own inventions.” –Psalms 106:39

That’s exactly right! This TV whore has set his sights on eating America’s soul. And here are a few words on FALSE PROPHETS from the BIBLE which I think apply here:

“I have seen also in the prophets of Jerusalem an horrible thing: they commit adultery, and walk in lies: they strengthen also the hands of evildoers, that none doth return from his wickedness: they are all of them unto me as Sodom, and the inhabitants thereof as Gomorrah.” –Jer 23:14

“When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.” –Deu 18:22

And Colbert’s money motivation, the BIBLE talks about false prophets lust for wealth, too:

“Her leaders judge for a bribe, her priests teach for a price, and her prophets tell fortunes for money. Yet they lean upon the LORD and say, “Is not the LORD among us? No disaster will come upon us.” –Micah 3:11 [NIV]

It doesn’t make you sound smart or sophisticated, just phony. On the whole, your comment is unsurprisingly symptomatic of the radical democrat who worships at the feet of Colbert, convinced the world revolves around their idol and his vacation time of all things! I could really care less when the man prances off to the Vineyard but it is sad that you are so obsessed with his life that you’re even aware of such things.

No matter, though. My article is not intended for Colbert, it’s for my fellow Christian-Americans. Your man couldn’t possibly answer my points anyway since that would require him to break character. You see, Stephen Colbert has discovered a position he believes unimpeachable by critics– shouting at everyone while not really standing for anything at all. Of course, all you wishful liberals believe he supports every one of your outrageous causes, and he likely does, but how can you tell EXACTLY what he stands for? He would never risk the money-making that his Right Wing fakery brings him just to support late term abortion, amnesty for illegals, lower ages of sexual consent or whatever things are so near and dear to you people. This gets back to the main point of my article, Stephen Colbert is in it for the money and that’s why he genuinely doesn’t contribute to the health of American society.

Well Sultan, welcome to Christwire! We do things on our own schedule here. God’s laws are timeless and sometimes faith means moving one small grain of sand at a time. I pray that my bits of sand may one day build a castle, something that is worthy of our Lord, but who can know such things? It is His wisdom that I have placed my trust in.

And with the enormous amount of money behind “Big Sodomy,” they’ll be stuffing gay marriage and gays in the military down our craw before Obama ends his first and only term.

Sadly, I do not believe many of the non-homosexual liberals understand the full implications of the gay lifestyle on America- the drugs, the sodomy, the early deaths. But have they really taken a very close look at the pedophilia, leather, pride parades, crossdressing, meth addiction, shrill protesting and all else that defines the gay lifestyle today? “Your man couldn’t possibly answer my points anyway since that would require him to break character. You see, Stephen Colbert has discovered a position he believes unimpeachable by critics– shouting at everyone while not really standing for anything at all. Of course, all you wishful liberals believe he supports every one of your outrageous causes, and he likely does, but how can you tell EXACTLY what he stands for?”

Mr. Billings, it doesn’t matter where Stephen Colbert stands on anything because at the end of the day, he’s a comedian (plain and simple). Your failture to realize this proves that you’re not in on the joke at all. Politics are used as material for the comedy, but laughter is the main goal. Regardless of what Stephen may want to promote; if he doesn’t get the laughs, then he’s failed. This undermines any political agenda you may believe he has. And it’s clear that you don’t know much about the show or Stephen himself. If you did then you would have realized that despite Stephen’s use of satire; he still gets criticized from both the Right and Left. And you call yourself an investigative journalist? But then again, all the hyperboles in your article seriously demean your journalistic claims.

And thank God not all Christians in America view the world the way you do. I find your article hilarious almost as such as I do Stephen Colbert.

If you find that offensive, well then it’s your problem for now. Hopefully if I am loud and long enough, one day I will break into your fuzzy consciousness.

Sure, Colbert is a comedian but most everybody understands that he is much more than that– a giant political force today. He marshals the troops against Republican and pro-marriage causes every week. He teaches our young people to be lazy and sarcastic, not to take anything seriously. And his success is emblematic of a larger trend of cynicism and hate in America that I find incredibly disturbing and offensive to God.

        • I Smell Hypocrisy says:

It is quite a dilemma to decide what retarded and unfounded argument to dismantle and ridicule first. Hmm, let’s begin with the ones about the Roman Empire shall we?

-”Look what happened to Rome. The gays were allowed free reign and to make bath houses foul with their fecal sins. Needless to say Rome fell apart and was savaged by Godless barbarians.”

Let me see, firstly, Rome was not nearly as promiscuous and sexual as most think, that was in fact early Christian propaganda from the Dark Ages to dissuade from people researching Rome. Secondly Bathhouses were in fact places of both public interaction between classes as well as places of hygiene not seen anywhere else in Europe at that time, the reason the Bathhouses were dangerous was because of the lead pipes used to pump water, this was because lead did not rust and as such could be used for longer without replacing them. As for the “Godless barbarians” not only do most or indeed all individual groups of people have their own gods so no they weren’t “Godless” and in fact, some of the groups that attacked Rome, (Goths, Franks, Visigoths) were in fact Christians. Nice researching that one.

Secondly about the whole money thing.
“If we’re not a Christian nation why does our money say In God We Trust? Why are we one nation under God?”

Those phrases were added to the pledge of allegiance and the dollar bill during the Cold War to allow disparity between the West and the “Godless Communists” so the God part (notice how it doesn’t say WHICH God). The ‘God’ thing on the money and pledge has nothing to do with Christianity and was more for purposes of propaganda.

Let’s continue onto gays shall we? Yes, let’s.
“Well Dan, who in the liberal media doesn’t support the gay agenda when it comes right down to it? Truth is most of them do support it, or they’re actually homosexuals themselves but never get around to disclosing this obvious conflict of interest when reporting homosexual lifestyle issues.

No, probably not.”

I can’t help it, this actually made me laugh. Simply from the ridiculousness of the entire argument, not only are you essentially using elementary school methods of calling everyone who doesn’t agree with you (the Liberal Media in this case) as gay, something that most people seem to stop doing around middle or high school. Secondly how exactly do gays increase “Drugs, Pedophilia, Early Deaths, Crossdressing, Meth, and shrill protesting”? Not only is it in fact the opposite in many cases (There are far more shrill protesters against gays than for gays) Crystal Meth has nothing to do with gays, and instead with people who either sell or use the drugs themselves, many of which are not gay people, ‘Drugs’ makes no sense since you do not specify which drugs hence the argument holds no weight due to it’s completely unspecific nature (are we talking cocaine or allergy medicine here as ‘Drugs’?) Crossdressing makes no sense since there are many straight people as well as gays who crossdress, it’s not necessarily a sexual choice, simply a fashion choice, and for the Early Deaths thing, well, I assume you mean AIDS/HIV, which is not only spread probably more through the heterosexual pool than the homosexual pool simply BECAUSE people think only gays have AIDS hence they do not adequately protect themselves.

Now onto politics, my last argument for this post.
“Yes, our country is falling away from its conservative roots. You know what else is going on? Violence in increasing in our public schools. Our nation’s economy lays in shambles. Families are hungry and without healthcare.

We are not safe because terrorists seek to destroy our way of life. Disease runs rampant and teenage pregnancy highlight the sham of Hollywood fornication and empty advertisements have forced onto our kids.

Our nation is falling apart because we have fallen away from the body of Christ.”

I’m going to say first, exactly what kind of “Conservative Roots” are you talking about? After all, the idea of healthcare for all is not a “conservative” idea, but that of liberals. The economy is in shambles not because of anything the “Non Conservatives” have done, in fact this is far from the truth, Ronald Reagan, the much celebrated conservative, increased national debt more than any other President in history, Bill Clinton is the only president for the past four Presidents to lessen our nation’s debt, George Bush Sr. and George W. Bush both tremendously increased our nation’s debt and increased government control over individual lives by leaps and bounds (something that “Conservatives” are wholeheartedly against, liberals are supposed to be for “big government” not Conservatives). Teenage pregnancy has always been a fact of life, from earliest times, people have been getting pregnant as teens, in earlier times it was because you would rarely live past 30 years of age, now people find problems with it due to the disruption it causes on society’s morals, and for no other reason. The body of Christ has little to do with any of these factors and in fact, it should not matter at all into the issue of violence in Public Schools, since our government and constitution has a nice little clause, that of “separation of Church and State.”

As a little bonus, I simply say this, Mr. Billings, stop referring to people as “My Child”. Not only is it condescending towards the people who hold legitimate criticisms for this article, but it labels you as a hypocrite since you refer to other people as “My Child” when you do not like the title of “Sir” which is given as a title of respect and acknowledgment of superiority, or at least equality, unlike your chosen title for others which brands them as children as opposed to talking to people like equals, so in short, stop being a hypocrite and get your facts right people. Thank you for your time, and I hope you continue to live in whatever lifestyle you choose, after all, Jesus himself said to “turn the other cheek.”

“Select capable men from all the people–men who fear God, trustworthy men who hate dishonest gain–and appoint them as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens.” –Exod 18.21, NIV

              Mr. Stephen Billings,

Opinion is always filled with flaws, of which your whole article is based on.

You repeatedly hide behind the bible and its’ words, twisting everything you read from the bible to support your opinions. I could write an article about Stephen Colbert and quote sections of the bible to SUPPORT him. You are no better than Hannity or Olbermann, twisting any written words to support your opinion, religious or otherwise. This is the biggest problem with religion. Every religion has people who feel it is their RIGHT to interpret their religion to their viewpoint! Religion (anyone’s) has been and always will be the flash point for conflicts and wars, based on people with similar viewpoints as your own guiding their way. You sir, along with many others devoted to the utopian assumations of Christianity, are the reason this country, among others, will eventually scorn religion, not support it. You would think it would scare the crap out of you to realize that the word “atheist” isn’t so harsh a term anymore. You sir are one of many that are contributing to this revolt against religion. People don’t want to be told how to think or live by others, especially when it is quoted from the bible and followed with “see God told ya so”.

You also put Jane Fonda as the first picture making it seem as if he’s “in-bed” with an “Anti” American. Gimme a break. Your neo-conservatism shines to the forefront with this statement and the automatic reference to Adolf Hitler and Stalin that you guys love to conjure up. Any time you disagree with someone and then slapping up a picture or referencing the name of two of the most destructive humans ever to walk this earth and politely say “he/she is just like them” should be criminal in and of itself. That’s not journalism that’s our-right fabrication. Not to mention the fact that you threw more homophobia into your one article than Colbert has done the last few years on television. I’ll take a not so wild shot in the dark here that you are a “birther” too.

Something tells me they should be teaching more/better ethics classes with journalism now-a-days, at least if that’s who this article is supposed to be from, which is very much in-doubt. Neo-conservative blogging seems to be your career path.

            1) Colbert is more than a stand up comic, he’s now, for better or worse, a political force (due mostly to the very fans who have shown up here).

            2) Terrorism is a great threat to the very core beliefs we Americans hold dare, but so is the cynicism, hate, defeat and lies that Colbert’s people represent. Lord Chamberlin, fearful of standing up to a fearsome national enemy, acquiesced and thereby prolonged WWII years, bringing death to millions of Jews. George Bush Sr was held back by Congress from pursuing Saddam all the way back to Baghdad and this resulted in a rogue state that was a grave threat to us in the age of terror, making it necessary for GWB to return (and he faced the same problem- had we bombed more and sent twice as many troops, this thing would have been long ago concluded).

There are many other examples where such dithering and apologizing have held back the forces of good. The French thought the Maginot line would save them, but the Germans just walked around it. The French, so debauched in political and moral corruption were unprepared and had to suffer through the war as an occupied territory. Do you want that to happen here? I don’t, and that’s why I advocate for strong beliefs and a strong America. I advocate for those things to protect people like you, to protect YOUR freedoms even if you don’t understand or care the sacrifice we make for you.

Editorial: UGA should declare Colbert ineligible for Peabody Award
Athens Banner-Herald | Story updated at 9:02 pm on 8/13/2009

“Perhaps, Bulldog Nation, you have heard of Stephen Colbert, the comedic “genius” who for the past few years has been eking out a living on cable TV’s Comedy Central with the half-hour weekday “Colbert Report,” in which he attempts to portray an ersatz right-wing political pundit.

“Improbably, Colbert’s middling effort at humor – the “Report” is admittedly funnier, more poignant, and more attuned to the vagaries of the human condition than “The Golden Girls,” but not quite to the level of, say, “The Facts of Life” – earned him a 2007 Peabody Award, widely recognized as the most prestigious honor in electronic media.

“Sadly, Colbert’s treatment of the award went quickly from funny to, well … erratic. Shortly after winning the award, Colbert used a segment of the “Report” to suggest the Peabody “could be shinier,” and to weirdly link his recognition to the role of Doritos snack chips in his ersatz presidential campaign. “Doritos have now won a Peabody,” Colbert giddily intoned. He then placed a homemade “Peabody Award Winning” sticker on a bag of Doritos, and urged viewers to do the same, pronouncing the snack chips “crunchtigious.” Shortly after that, the “Report” featured Colbert presenting George Foster Peabody with the “Golden Dorito,” symbol of the “Stephen T. Colbert Award for Excellence in Recognizing Excellence.”

“Colbert’s sad slide into comedic irrelevance regarding the Peabody Award reached its anticipated nadir earlier this week. During a “Report” segment on the slimly tangential story of a Connecticut woman who gave herself a fake nursing award from a fictitious nursing association, Colbert pulled the Peabody from under his desk and said, “Anybody can make up an award or a fancy association. That’s how I got my Peabody.” He then smirkily intoned, “The University of Georgia? Ridiculous. There are no universities in Georgia. It’s (the award) chocolate.”

Overall, organizations like these love to puff up their fellow travelers, giving each other awards, catered dinners and 60 Minutes profiles, etc. etc. If not the Peabodys, some other group will surely line up to give him a shiny statue just because he controls tv airtime.

Why do you constantly refer to Steven Colbert as “supporting a homogay agenda”? You also constantly use hateful language, nearly in every sentense. Think about it, would Jesus say things like “he enjoyed public drunkenness with homosexual democrat Congressman Jared Polis, he had frank discussions about cocaine use with democrat Congressman Rob Wexler, he went to Iraq to advocate directly to the troops for overtly homosexual servicemen”. Not only is it completely unchristlike, it;s also completely untrue. You have no factual basis for saying these awful things. I truly can’t believe that you would post such a hateful article on a “Christian website”. God wants you to show unconditional love to everyone, and writing an article, such as this, truly shows how much love you really lack.

            From Wikipedia:

“Caesar Flavius Valerius Aurelius Constantinus Augustus[3] (27 February c. 272[2] – 22 May 337), commonly known in English as Constantine I, Constantine the Great, or (among Eastern Orthodox, Coptic Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox and Byzantine Catholic Christians) Saint Constantine (pronounced /ˈkɒnstɛntaɪn/), was Roman emperor from 306, and the undisputed holder of that office from 324 until his death in 337. Best known for being the first Christian Roman emperor, Constantine reversed the persecutions of his predecessor, Diocletian, and issued (with his co-emperor Licinius) the Edict of Milan in 313, which proclaimed religious toleration throughout the empire.” in other words, widespread acceptance of Christianity in the Empire came about 300 years after Christ’s death.

Fact is that our entire civilization, including our form of government, architecture of our capital buildings, and even modern theater comes from the Greeks and Romans.

Not really….no The fall of Rome was due to the lack of pureblooded soldiers which were caused by:
The Empire’s massive domain, which began taking in not only the valuable wares of each sector, but also the diseases.
The brutal civil wars between the pagan emperors. In one 50 year period 25 emperors reigned. One died of natural causes. This discouraged the citizenry from enlisting as soldiers.
The lackof pureblood soldiers caused the Empire to hire barbarian troops for protection, most of whom had no loyalty to the crown at all. The fall of Rome at 476 was not due to an invasion, but due to an Ostrogothic coup within the military itself.
The Church, which was supposed to unite the empire at this time of need, was suffering through a civil war of its own, and was thus unable to provide support.

Yep, it is “quite possibly” another joke! For those of us who are in on the joke, there’s nothing “quite possible” about it—it is a joke, and for recovering Catholics like myself, it’s pretty funny. I have a tough time believing that you are “in on the joke” when you seem less than sure about what, exactly, that joke is.

And “a lustful need to surround himself with children”? That’s hilarious, honestly—nice use of hyperbole. Of course, you were just talking about college-age students, so the term “children” is deliberately misleading, but if you were aiming for the satirical brass ring, good effort!

I’ll set aside the bad writing, which is really quite bad. You may want to look into Strunk’s The Elements of Style. You need it. But to the point. You really don’t get it, do you? It’s not an act. When you say things like “[Colbert] mocks Black [sic] people saying don’t care about race” (another horrendous sentence that incorrectly joins subject to predicate), you fail to understand that he is making fun of you. He’s impersonating people like you to illustrate how insane are the “values” you purport to hold. He’s talking about white conservative “leaders” who pretend to be inclusive and embrace diversity while their actions make it obvious to everyone that nothing could be further from the truth.

Colbert raises tons of money for the families of veterans and active service members. What do you do but pontificate with laughable prose and ludicrous hyperbole such nonsense as “Stephen Colbert represents one of the most dangerous trends in America next to Islamic terrorism today!” Get a life. The part about black people is, in fact, a slight typo. The quotation marks all through this article were deleted in the processing of uploading and the full line should have read, “Colbert mocks black people saying, “I don’t care about race.” I hope it makes it a tiny bit clearer for you there. I know this is one of Colbert’s cute little jokes, but it find it hollow and capricious. What does he contribute to discussions about race with such drivel?

As for the charity, Colbert doesn’t raise tons of money, he gets you loyal fans to buy a set of pencils for some Ozark school now and again but I wouldn’t exactly say he’s a philanthropist. And you’re easy prey for it. He commands and you start clicking away with your Mastercard numbers. I am truly moved by the service of our troops fighting the good fight against global terror, but I believe questioning and mocking every aspect of the war is unbecoming and counterproductive. We could have finished up things in Iraq much sooner had we not been held back by the Dems in Congress. It is nice that he does things for the troops families, but I don’t find his motivations sincere. Mr. Billings,

You ’sir’ are one of the things wrong with communication in this world. Hyperbolic arguments and a deliberate ignorance of any fact that doesn’t fit with your desired view does not make you right. You call yourself an investigative journalist and yet you’ve stated repeatedly in your replies here that you have only partially studied ‘facts’ you were complaining about. If you want to be taken seriously, maybe you should actually do what you claim to do.

I am former military, having served in wartime in a combat arms capacity. I helped guarantee your right to say what you want and for Stephen Colbert to say his piece as well. As Americans you are both equals as we all are. You may not like what he says but for the love of God be honest in your arguments. Hyperbole is another form of false witness. If you can’t win an argument with the pure truth should you even make the argument?

It is unAmerican to NOT challenge the establishment when they are corrupt and subject to manipulation by anyone other than the people. I challenged the wrongful invasion of Iraq. It hurt the war on terror more than anything else as it bled critical resources that could have been used to crush Al-queida in their safe haven of Afghanistan. Bush/Cheney was a horrible administration, they stripped more rights from the american people than anyone could have imagined and conservatives stayed silent yet this administration wants healthcare available for all of the the american people and you compare him to Hitler! What kind of F’d up logic system do right wing nutjobs have?

Extreme views in any environment are not a good thing. For a little insight, the muslim right wing is where Al’Qeida resides, I equate our American extreme right as equals to Bin Ladens boys. Liberalism is about as bad, you end up with anarchy when you slide too far left. This world needs more moderate voices that try to actually understand one another and work to meet in the middle for the good of ALL.

I have a few questions for you if you dare respond coherently and without hyperbole:

What is the threat of gay marriage to the ’sanctity’ of marriage? If marriage was that sanctimonious there would be no ability to divorce.

What is the threat of open homosexuals serving in the military? I served with gays who kept it as an open secret. We all knew and didn’t mind. Insert 1 right winger with a closet gay issue and they made all kinds of hell, including false statements, to get a perfectly good soldier kicked out. Good job for weakening our fighting force in a time of war.

Why your obsession with Colbert? It’s obviously satire and he makes fun of anyone who strays across his radar, liberal or conservative. He’s supported the troops more than any other celebrity I’ve seen. He’s visited the troops, Shaved his head for comeraderie with them and he has his foundation for their families. What have you done for our troops? I’d be willing to bet you may have a yellow ribbon magnet on your car at the most.

From your ‘article’ it becomes obvious that you aren’t really bright enough to grasp the level of Steven Colbert’s humor. While most is overt he has many layers of subtlety built in. There’s a reason he gets awards for his work. If you had actually researched the man you would have found that he considers the television persona a character and nothing more. He keeps his work and real life as 2 seperate entities. But I guess if it’s on TV show it has to be fact, am I right?

Before you go on another hyperbolic rant about someone else, please review the bible you claim to know and make sure you aren’t presenting your opinions as fact (false witness), It might also be a good idea to actually research your subject matter instead of stopping when you’ve reached your shallow comfort level.

Colbert is disingenuous through and through. It’s a pathetic statement on American society today that a man known for that singular quality is the beacon of our youth. Does this mean America loves the tearing down beliefs more than embracing the time-honored truths? When you young people are done tearing down all the moral foundations of this society, what will you build up with? You will have nothing. You’ll see then that the Colberts and Stewarts and Howard Deans have left you empty handed. They contribute nothing on which to grow America. They offer no ideas or symbols for our future. “Why are Canadians coming to America if there govt free health is so great?”

There is a very simple answer to this: They don’t. I live a few hundred miles away from the Canadian border, and I know several U.S. citizens that drive there for health care.

“can we really afford with Obama’s ecomony to support this care for non-American illegal aliens who just wander into a hospital too?

“Obama’s economy” is already supporting their care. Hospitals are currently required to treat any one who has a medical emergency regardless of their citizenship or ability to pay. Now you can be upset about that if you want, personally I’d rather not wait for them to do a credit check before they sew my arm back on, but it has nothing to do with any proposed health care reform.

              “What about hospital wait times”?

I can only assume that this myth is base in the fact that some places that have nationalized health care tend have a longer waiting period. The longer wait is do to the disproportionate number of people who need health care compared to amount of health that is actually available. It has nothing to do with how that health care is paid for.

I have never heard of an article in the constitution that that prohibits nationalized health care, but if you let me know which one it is I can look it up for future reference.

You are absolutely right in saying that nationalized health care will ruin the free enterprise of the health insurance industry. I’m just not sure why you think that’s a bad thing. The United States is the only industrialized nation without nationalized health care.

But really the health care debate boils down to one simple question: Do I want to help my fellow man, or tell them “suck it up, you should have gotten a better job”?

Fuck it, I was gonna say something insightful, but I know it wouldn’t be read by the extremists who are bashing us non-religious people. So I’m just going to say, without being to harsh, Stephen Colbert is a comedy show. Let it go like water off a ducks back.

And while on the topic of religion, why did god make mosquitoes?

Way to continue the proud tradition of saying incredible ignorant things, labeling them as religious/conservative, and then alienating an entire generation of people against any of your core principles that arn’t bat shit crazy.

Unless of course this is satire, in which case well done sir! Colbert would be proud.

I agree with JaniceFun, America was founded as a Christian nation and Christians should be making the decisions. This is only logical as Christians are the only ones with morals enough to make good decisions. It is a fact that when Christians assert themselves in the political arena nothing horrible has ever come from it.kkk_jesus_saves.gif

Mr Colbert is merely using his first amendment rights as are us all here and now.
      Is this not America?
Suppressing either side won’t make either side go away. Colbert has every right to be on the air as does Rush Limbaugh. Just because someone has an opposing viewpoint doesn’t mean you have to believe it. If you truly raised your children in the right way then you shouldn’t have any worries in the first place. Colbert should just be static to you.

      • It’s your run of the mill liberal circular logic to say that I’m trying to strip away Stephen Colbert’s right to free speech. No, he can natter away all he wants. But that doesn’t mean you people have to listen. What I’m yelling from the mountain tops here is that the emperor has no clothes. He is a fraud. Hollow. Meaningless. And I hope and pray and then pray some more that the young people here wise up to this fact. It is a real danger to have such negativity in our society. After 9/11, America was UNITED. People were saying the age of cynicism was dead. But then came your buddy Colbert and his brethren to throw it right back in our faces. I find it disgusting, to tell you the truth and I want more people to realize this.

That fact that so many of you are here is heartening. It means that maybe my point is truly getting across to some of you.

The ONLY reason anyone even came here was because they googled Stephen Colbert for hate, love, like, or just to see a funny program. The ONLY reason people leave a comment is because they think/know your crazy and would like to see your reaction to what they are going to type.

Me. I think you just have nothing better to bitch about. Your old, kids have grown or never had any. They probably don’t like you and don’t visit. It’s time to change the way you are or be stuck endlessly bitching about things that will never change. If your bitching about Colbert you should have been bitching about Stewart for just as long or longer and if your wasting your time on that, have a nice life of nothingness.

You have no idea what satire is. It’s all in good fun, not something that pollutes “morals.” Actual political extremist from the Republican and Liberal spectrum are what are damaging to kids, not comedy they don’t understand.

      And you’re a bigot.

I’m going to post this, even though someone else already did.

      • There’s no denying that Falwell was human, after all, with all that that entails. But so was Bill Clinton. And Obama and Colbert will not by on that shiny pedestal forever if history is any judge. President George Washington’s statement is just one of many from a voluminous record. Thankfully, they corresponded and wrote diaries a great deal back then. It’s easy enough to find a thousand counter arguments made by the founding fathers, places where they stated emphatically the Christian foundation of this incredible country that we share.

You’ve mentioned idol worship frequently, as though “the youth” are devoting the same level of blind faith to Colbert’s word that you do to the bible (imperfect though it may be, having been written and translated by human hands). I assure you this is not the case; although it’s extremely likely that many more people use the Colbert Report/Daily Show for their main source of news than should be doing so, but the vast majority of the audiences of both shows has had some training in critical thinking. The idea that his word is taken as gold is ludicrous; he’s a comedian, people know he’s a comedian, and so they take the things he says for what they are- jokes.

As for the Founding Fathers, I’d love to see the evidence of which you spoke- indicating they thought America should be a Christian nation. I highly doubt this to be the case, but if you can produce the quotations from a reliable source, I will reconsider.

          And lastly:

‘One of the incredible advantages of giving you life to Christ is that you don’t hide from the truth. There is no need. It fits all the evidence, from science, from the nature of human beings, from their capacity for good and evil, from the remarkable life of our savoir, Jesus Christ and his teaching which has touched millions upon millions of people through history.’

The first sentence I can understand. The third, for all my rereadings, is still not a sentence. If you’d professed to be anything but a journalist, I’d excuse that, but the combination of the two, along with the fact that the whole paragraph evades the original comment, makes me believe that you (and possibly JaniceFun) are in fact trolling.
