Canadian Premier Comes To America for Surgery

Newfoundland Premier Danny Williams will have heart surgery in the United States, later this week.

Canada often likes to brag about their ‘free’ healthcare system and Obama has repeatedly attempted to deceive Americans, trying to make us think it would be better to use the Canadian’s archaic model based off Soviet gulag penal system.

Now we see that a Canadian premier, as confirmed by Deputy premier Kathy Dunderdale at a news conference this week, is coming to the USA to undergo heart surgery?

This begs this question: if Canada’s healthcare system is superior to America’s, why is their premier coming to our country to get medical attention?

The clear answer here is that our system is the best. You cannot beat the health system in America. We use capitalism to inspire doctors to compete to give the best healthcare. Our medical schools are superior to those of any other nation. The only true M.D. you’ll find are those trained in America; this is why those who get their licenses from foreign places are told to get out if they try to practice medicine here.

    • I wish I lived in Canada, I’m sick of Americans. Everyone acts like America is the center of the universe and that every other country in the world should bow down to it; have you ever considered the fact that America would not exsist if it wasn’t for the exsistence of other nations? No, you haven’t, because you’re all the typical small-minded U.S. resident. Open your eyes: THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA DOES NOT MAKE THE WORLD REVOLVE.

    • yes because amricas health care is so great right? thats why you can have a cut off finger and be told to fuck off right? that why sick people are being thrown out of hospitals right? you have some of the best medical skills in the world thats true. but unless the avarage man can use this without worrying if he’ll have place to live if he enters a hospital you have on eof the worlds worst healthcare systems. there actually was a test. even INDIA have better health care than you. america may have some of the best docotrs. but only if you are fucking rich and the sad truth is the avarage american isn’t.

I’m Canadian. The article is, for the most part, correct. The American healthcare regiment usually has better doctors (The top graduates of Canadian medical schools often go to practice in the states because of better pay), as well as better technologies. This is all undoubtedly due to the larger budgets of private healthcare firms in contrast to publicly funded healthcare. Furthermore, the logistics of Canadian healthcare are in tatters. Even if suffering from something as serious as a bullet wound you may be left in line for hours; I myself walked into an emergency room with a serious cut and passed out from blood loss after an hour because they could not get to me. Luckily in Canada though, everyone may be treated and there are no complicated processes of obtaining, or not obtaining, medical insurance. That being said, neither Canada nor the US are examples of excellent healthcare systems. The best can be found in European countries such as Switzerland, Sweden or the Netherlands where they have two tier healthcare systems (both private and public)

In my honest opinion, the Honourable Danny Williams made a good and appropriate decision. If he has the money to get better care then he has the right to do so. It will only have positive consequences for everyone else, by freeing up money, time and space for other people.

Also, though I have argued that Canada doesn’t have a better healthcare system, I have to say that the above comments have demonstrated that we probably do have a better education system at the very least :P
