01) Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.
02) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.
03) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.
04) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn’t changed at all like many of the principles on which this great country was founded; women are still property, blacks still can’t marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.
05) Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of marriages like Britney Spears’ 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.
06) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn’t be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren’t full yet, and the world needs more children.
07) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.
08) Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That’s why we have only one religion in America.
09) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That’s why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.
10) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven’t adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.

Why do you think it is someone’s job to “refute” anything? Non of the sarcastic “reasons” given have any basis for being refuted since they don’t stand up to real reasons against homosexual marriage. Since none of the reasons are serious or speak to ‘actual’ reasons concerning gay marriage, why would anyone feel compelled to “refute” them? Here’s a reason for heterosexual marriage; if you weren’t born from a sperm and an egg just what do you imagine created you? That means a man and a woman. Now concentrate and try to make the connection. Never mind, you don’t have to “refute” that. But instead, what you want to do is enjoy the fruits of someone’s seed with none of the work. And when the children are REALLY yours the emotional investment is intense and immediate. Anyway, you probably love your dog too. I realize it is easier for some to throw away the opposite sex and avoid the effort. If it isn’t, why don’t you do it? Oh yeah, because you LOOVE SOO MUCH! Bullcrap! You love sex without responsibility and the commitment to have a child of that is really yours.

Wow… Iv heard everything from “pathetic athiest” to something that pretty much said athiests are basement dwellers… It is really really sad to see how ignorant people can be.
By the by, I am agnostic and believe that their can be some sort of “God”, it just isnt yours persay, which you cant stand… and I also think that is horribly ignorant because Christianity is no longer the majority it use to be. Instead of throwing a temper tantrum like you have done so many times in the past Christians, I believe it is time to accept other people have different opinions.. and that you are not always right, or at least not the only ones who are right. To think that you are right and the millions of people who practice Buddhism are wrong (by the way, buddhist’s are known to condone homosexuality) along with the many other regligions out there, is sickening. Can you wrap your head around that?
Probably not.. Im probably going to be labeld a basement dweller. Anywho. I am a major in Religious studies, I have read the Bible, along with many other Religious texts, and if you were to follow it word for word you would be stoning children every time they spoke badly of their parents, and would litteraly not be able to shake the hand of a female if she were having her period.
If you think that those requests are crazy, you should consider the things you blindly follow yourself. The Bible can be read and interprited in a variety of ways, you can choose to take the positive or the negative atributes and admit that some are horribly outdated – remember, homosexuality is bad because you cannot procreate, have you ever had sex for pleasure and not in order to create spawn? Then you are guilty too. – and spend your time on earth being a loving supportive human being instead of prosocuting people who arnt even bad, just different from you. Im sure if their is a “God”, he would be much more appreciative of a positive, peaceful attitude.
And please, please stop labeling people as “Athiest”. Do you know how stupid it is to label people who cease to believe in something? That would be like calling you an “antiscientist” because you dont believe exactly what I believe. Doesn’t that sound stupid when you think about it?

Have Atheists and Agnostics (AKA freethinkers) not been unfairly prosecuted by theocratic biases and misinformation? Refuting the claims already made with valid points instead of opinion could bring more credit to your side of the argument.

I agree with what you say, except that you put Atheists in with the Agnostics. True Atheists have about as much in common with Agnostics as Christians do. Atheism is a faith in no god, Christianity is a faith in Christ, Agnosticism is not faith in a normal sense.
Atheists are just as enslaved to their beliefs as any faith you can name. It is true that their belief is in an absence of any god in the world, but that doesn’t make it any less of a belief in how things are. Agnostics are the free ones, they believe that they don’t have the answers to what happens after. Most are more concerned with how to make our time alive better, not hoping to score points on some god’s good side at the rare chance we might not be eternally damned or whatever.
Being an Agnostic means that you do not know. You do not have faith one way or the other. So in other words; Christians believe in God, Atheists believe that all gods are BS, most Agnostics want credible evidence before they jump on either bandwagon, and those other Agnostics left over just don’t give a damn.

I believe you are mistaken. AIDS is a disease that is being spread faster among oblivious and ignorant straight people than gays. You know the ones, the types that believe that condoms are just there to promote random sex, and to downplay your beliefs, right?
And I don’t see how you can lob child molesters in with gays. That is like me saying that all Christians are genocidal maniacs, simply because there have been Christian dictators in the past who have committed genocide, purely for their religious interpretations.
So I hope you will rethink your opinion on this matter.

Um, no they were not. They were officially ordained as priests. Look up the news stories, and look up the people in those articles. They had been ordained as PRIESTS and those PRIESTS were molesting children.
I find it interesting that if you were to lump all kinds of different groups that these child molesters are found in.. I believe that you’d find much more in the PRIESTS group than the others. Why do I say that? It is because of all of the evidence pointing to it.
30,000 children in Ireland. Thousands have come forward here in the states, many of those were even vouching on behalf of their friends, whom had been so very damaged by said PRIESTS, that they were too terrified for their eternal souls to come forward themselves.
Of course those could never be brought forth as evidence against said priests, but if those children were that traumatized, could that mean that there are many more molested children than we realize? All those priests would have to say to some of these kids is that they have to do what they say, or God (or Jesus, or whomever you wish) will consign them to hell for all eternity. And such a large number of child molesters are able to be ordained officially as priests..
Maybe this process of becoming “ordained” should be regulated a bit better. Since it seems to be a sure-fire way for these criminals to get private access to children, and the perfect way to control them without physically restraining or drugging them. A simple threat to damn them for eternity, and they crumble to the priests will.

Just because some men wrote a book on how humanity should behave that happened to also contain the laws and expectations of society thousands of years ago. I’m not ignorant, I’ve read the bible in detail. Even the sections on how to cope with mildew in your house Leviticus 14. They’re absolutely supposed to be ridiculous. They’re satirising some of the arguments commonly made against gay marriage. To use your example, I’ve certainly heard the argument that allowing gay people to marry would encourage more people to be gay, which is ridiculous as it’s not a choice, just as people do not choose to be tall.

Statistically, going by Irish statistics alone, most new cases of HIV presenting to clinics are people who claim to have never had any homosexual contact. Also, Adam might consider learning that HIV causes AIDS and you cannot actually catch AIDS.

In my Christianity, I practice that: love. I don’t go looking for obscure verses to support my political views.
I was taught that God’s love was unconditional, and that means to everyone.

Kenny, the bible may have a few segments that enforce a brotherly love relationship sure, but it also tells you to enslave defeated enemies and that women must marry the men who rape them, or are you, like so many others choose to ignore those parts. The bible is in no way a moral compass especially by today’s standards.
As for the question of aids, it is possible for both sexual genders to get aids, it is a sexually transmitted disease, anyone can get it if they have relations with someone who has it, religious groups just deem it another opportunity to bash gays.
I have nothing against religion or christianity, but you need to leave your beliefs to yourselves don’t try to enforce them on others, and if you ARE going to preach your holy book, read it first.

I assume you were not really criticizing me, couldn’t quite tell. If I was unclear, I am in support of gay marriage and I am a Christian.
As for excluding parts of the Bible; yes, there are many parts which should be considered. Many parts (especially Leviticus) were intended for specific groups of people at specific points in history for specific purposes. I’m not editing the Bible by my own standards, but considering the original context and intent. The cultures for which many “laws” were originally written don’t even exist today.
I find it hard to express my Christianity these days because so many people are attacking the fundamentalist brand: which they rightly should. People can’t use the Bible as an excuse for being ignorant and intolerant. God gave us intelligence, so use it.
Fundamentalist conservatives seem to always miss the main point of Jesus’s teachings: Love as God loves us.
Sometimes I feel like the loneliest guy in the world: a liberal-moderate tolerant Christian who accepts evolution and all views addressed in science, supports gay marriage, and believes that Jesus was God and came to try to get the world to wake up (clearly he hasn’t reached everyone; and I’m talking to the fundamentalists here as well)

This is brilliant.
Just so you know AIDS was initially known as GRID (Gay-Related Immune deficiency) when first discovered in the 1980s. However, they quickly realised that the term “gay-related” did not accurately describe the group of people that the disease affected, because it can affect EVERYONE and can be spread by virtually ANYONE. So, the name was changed to AIDS in 1982, and in 1984 the retrovirus that caused AIDS was found, which we know as HIV. Just so you know, homosexuals didn’t magically start the retrovirus, and it is expected to have been contracted from apes through the consuming of ape meat as HIV is contracted when bodily fluids of the diseased contaminate bodily fluids of those who are not. Saliva can even spread AIDS, but the probability is very small.
If even the stunted government and backward thinkers of the 80s who blamed the gays came to realise that it was not homosexuals that caused and spread AIDS then I do not understand how the likes of Tyson Bowers III can say such ridiculous things. Straight people are the ones spreading AIDS at the highest rate, especially in Africa where religion has led to the banning of the only thing that can protect people: contraception.
As for the idea of homosexuals been linked to molestation, do your fucking research. Molestation is not gender defined. It is the AGE that attracts people. Paedophiles do not distinguish between sexes, they simply are preying on those who are prepubescent. Both prepubescent females and males have similar bodies, with little muscle or genital development on boys and little chest/hip and genital development on girls. It is the youth that attracts molesters, so a man molesting a boy does not mean he is a homosexual. He is sick and should be punished, but you cannot label him as homosexual.
Males are attracted to females because of their womanly features, females vice versa. The same is true of males who are attracted to males, it tends to be masculine qualities homosexuals men are attracted to. If not that, homosexuals, like EVERYONE else, will be attracted to a great personality, something that few prepubescent children have developed. So, stop bullshitting. Again, it tends to be messed up straight males that molester children. Get your facts right.
So, let’s say you ignore the logic.

Clever. Honestly and genuinely clever.
Christianity doesn’t mean anything without love. 1st Corinthians 13. You can speak in the tongues of angels, you can have visions, but without love it’s nothing. There are also characteristics of love found within the same chapter. It would behoove most Christians to re-read the chapter on love and put it into practice, instead of condemning those they have no right to condemn. It is God’s place to judge, and it is our place to love.
As far as AIDS being the “gay” disease, more than 1 million heterosexual native Africans have AIDS.

Who was it that said “Love thy neighbor?” What happened to loving our brothers and sisters for who they are and not for one thing we don’t agree with? We don’t go around condemning people who like a certain food or who have blue eyes to an eternity of fire and brim stone. Here is my logic as a Christian in support of gay marriage:
I take the bible seriously, but am very careful about what I do and do not take literally. Mostly, I’m very cautious about the old testament. If we all ran around taking the Hebrew bible as 100% factual, we would be an extremely vengeful and murderous society. (“an eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth.”) We would condone slavery, stone disobedient children, and prohibit divorcees from remarriage. All condemnation of homosexuality stems from the old testament. Jesus had absolutely nothing to say about homosexuality– not a single thing–there wasn’t even a word for it in his time. I believe in striving to live as Christ would live, and I have yet to find any evidence that he would have discriminated against gays in any way. If anything, Jesus’ teachings of love and acceptance point to the opposite.
