94-Year-Old Graduates from College
94-year-old Hazel Soares of San Leandro, California has proven that it’s never too late to pursue your dream. She and 500 other students graduated from Mills College in Oakland in a commencement ceremony held on Saturday.
Soares has dreamed of obtaining a college education ever since graduating from high school in 1932. At that time the country was in the throes of the Great Depression, so her dreams were put on hold.
Two marriages, six children, and over 40 grandchildren and great-grandchildren later, she has graduated with a degree in art history and hopes to get a job as a docent in a San Francisco museum as soon as possible.

It is ironic that a woman from a generation that never needed college finally put her nose to the grindstone, worked her ass off, and got the college degree of her dreams.
It is amazing what a good dose of hard work can do.

Wow, I didn’t notice she was white until after you mentioned it, Joe. It is too bad that black grandmother who was caught selling crack didn’t do the same. She had all the same opportunity but instead chose to sell drugs. Shame.
