As a girl that was a dancer for 10 years as a child and is now a grown adult with an education and career – I can’t see the harm in it. I’m not a criminal or a deviant. I am a christian and the father of girls this age that also dance. I am one of few posters that has experience with this and can actually can speak from a parents perspective. These girls are trained dancers who work very hard to achieve their dancing skills. As parents we have never forced our children to dance, instead it is something they enjoy and have practiced for many, many hours/years. Our children are well adjusted, mostly “A” students, that don’t drink, don’t do drugs, are not teenage mothers and have always stayed out of trouble. As for the costumes, these are “dance costumes” just like a little league baseball player or ice skater has a uniform or a costume. People that post disgusting and sexually oriented comments might need to set up some time with their own religious counselor for help since they choose to see something here that does not exist in the competitive dance world. These kids are great and I compliment them for their passion and skills!

There is nothing wrong with girls performing this way. I am actually surprised that it is getting this much attention. As a former dancer myself I remember having to pose or strut in a sexy way for dance routines at a young age. However, the piece that people are missing here is that when you are onstage dancing you are acting as a character. You are not acting as yourself. These girls are learning nothing more then acting. I can assure you that I turned out to be a productive member of our society and was not permiscuious because I learned to portray a sexy image on stage. I would actually say it helped build my confidence. I learned that I could be sexy and confident in a classy not trashy way. In the end it comes down to the home life and what the parents are teaching and the values they are instilling in their children. But we know what they would say: That global girldom needs more emphasis on intellect and independence, not less. That being cheered on for dressing and moving like strippers teaches girls a disturbing, belittling lesson. And that’s what’s so bewildering about this video: We know it’s wrong. It isn’t prudish to think 7-year-olds ought to look like 7-year-olds. It’s prudent. Twisted minds are surely drooling over the exhibitionism of the Beyoncé bunch. I watch this bunch of energetic 7-year-olds and wish that, with those kicks and their apparent athleticism, they were outside on a soccer field, enjoying a sport that focuses on play — and not so much on the body.

I have a 7-year-old daughter, and her passion at the moment is turning perfect cartwheels, playing baseball and inventing dramatic scenarios for her collection of tiny plastic animals. Peer pressure doesn’t seem to be an issue yet, but then again, most of her friends are into the same things — gymnastics, storytelling, inventive play. Soon enough, these girls, like girls everywhere, will have to navigate tricky adolescent waters, learning to dodge what’s unsafe and unwise, and finding out what true power, self-respect and individuality look like.
