Is Being Gay More Important to Ken Mehlman Than Being a Republican?

Ken Mehlman was a great man. As one of President George W. Bush’s most important political allies, he helped shape the groundbreaking conservative uprising of the 2000 election and saw that it was implemented with wisdom and discipline in the ensuing years. Despite the horrific wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the equally disturbing attempts to undermine Bush’s Evangelical Christian voice, Ken persevered. He became head of the Republican National Committee as a reward for his efforts and in that role he oversaw the ban of same-sex marriage in 21 states. In many issues large and small, Mehlman occupied a vital place, whether it was through his vocal support of Federal Marriage Amendment or campaigning for Senator Rick Santorum when he publicly condemned sodomy and homosexuality.

Yet now Mr. Mehlman has decided to throw all that away with his public confession that he is gay. In an interview he gave with Marc Ambinder of The Atlantic this week, Mehlman stated that the announcement of his sexual orientation has made him, “a happier and better person” and that, “it’s something I wish I had done years ago.”

Advocates for homosexuality were quick to jump on the story. “He needs to acknowledge the damage he caused and apologize for the lives he’s ruined,” Geoffrey Kors of Equality California said in a press release. Joe Jervis of Joe.My.God (not a religious site) was even more cruel when he called Mr. Mehlman a, “Repulsive Anti-Gay Quisling Homophobic Scumbag Asshat.” But, as the Washington Post noted, most “gay rights organizations generally welcomed his statement.” Fox News cut through all the rhetoric with the straightforward headline, “Disaster Looms If GOP Changes Course On Gay Marriage.” Other news organizations and journalists, including Townhall.com, World Net Daily, Andrew Brietbart, Michelle Malkin and Ann Coulter, have deemed this story just too gossipy and have decided against printing anything at all about Mr. Mehlman.

The question that must be asked now is this: Why does Ken Mehlman think that choosing the homosexual lifestyle is more important to him than the Republican values he once held so dear? For those quislings who say there is a small corner of compatibility for both ideologies, they are simply wrong. Ken’s own career proves that. But why has Ken abandoned such an incredibly impressive résumé? Why does he find same-sex activity so gratifying and engrossing that he would turn his brawny back on the men and women who once respected him so deeply? If he truly loved the Republican party, Mr. Mehlman would have sought help in one of the many programs created to cure unwanted same-sex attraction (SSA). Even after Bill Maher outed him and he resigned from the RNC, he still had a chance to turn his life around. He could have even had a second career as the face of “The Triumph of Family Values.“

WHAT DID THE PRESIDENT KNOW AND WHEN DID HE KNOW IT?
Is President George W. Bush partly to blame for all this? The President has been known to be an astute observer of the human condition, famously being able to read people’s dispositions with a single glance. It seems highly unlikely now that Mr. Bush did not know of Ken’s secret homosexual desires. For a conservative Christian to hand such massive power to a man struggling with salacious same-sex lust is simply immoral. It goes against all Biblical teaching and a leader like Bush should have shown more dedication to his faith in a situation like this. Also, putting someone who suffers from a disastrous personal problem in a high-powered governmental role poses an incredible national security risk. Homosexuals are highly susceptible to blackmail and corruption. Had the Russians or Chinese come into possession of such intelligence, the power they would have held over Mr. Mehlman and the U.S. Government is mind-boggling.

If the President did know, how much did he know? Was he simply aware that Ken exhibited some of the qualities of gay behavior? Or was there actual evidence of Mehlman’s obscene sodomistic encounters that Mr. Bush possessed? Did the President know about Ken’s sweaty male liaisons in 2000 when he was implementing his Evangelical Methodist beliefs into every level of government? Was it in 2002, when our leader embarked on his ambitious crusade to share Christian love and democracy in the Middle East? Or did Bush find out about Ken’s carnal cravings in 2004 at the height of his campaign to crush special “gay” rights on the state level of American politics? To protect his place in history, President Bush truly needs to set the record straight.

The reason this is relevant is because Ken, a poster child of Republican power, is poised to do more damage than good to the party with his confession. Many will take this as a sign of the so-called hypocrisy of conservative morality. Others will see this as further evidence that those who fight hardest against the gay agenda are secretly gay themselves. It makes the Christian movement look rotten at its core, it makes Republicans look as if they live by double standards, and it makes the ideology of family values in America look like a shallow opportunistic ploy to use fear to gain political control.

LESSONS LEARNED
In retrospect, the rise of Ken Mehlman may have been too hasty. He was a 38 year-old single man when he took the reins of the Republican Party. Possibly the thrill of unfiltered virile power corrupted his youthful, gentle soul. How many fresh-faced all-American men and boys did he have within his ranks? Maybe living in the epicenter of well-breed manliness lured him off course. Maybe it was the long hours trying to save this country from moral decline that wore down his defenses. The forces we fight against really are that massive and overwhelming!

As part of his pivotal role in the national moral debate, Mehlman needed to be up to date on the most graphic examples of liberal and homosexual propaganda. It is very likely that the extended exposure to the gay lifestyle tortured his very innermost being, pushing him like a sleepwalker down the dark alleyways of American depravity, as he sought some answer, some key, late at night in his luxurious Washington, D.C. offices, surrounded by doting interns and men who bristled with a military-like dedication to righteousness in suits as crisp and tight as any young Marine, leaning over his dark mahogany desk with Presidential pronouncements and K-Street invitations, the scent of cologne and cigars, single-malt scotches and raw masculinity, wafting over him… Maybe it was that horrendous challenge people of wisdom face in this country today as the forces of evil gather about us, maybe it was that moment when he felt lonely and helpless that the gay agenda invaded him, raped his very being, deep and hard, again and again, and once inside, he would not let them pull out, the scent of shame would be released in the close quarters of D.C. and he couldn’t bear it, couldn’t bear the world knowing the terribly flamboyant erection of his longings so he let the gay agenda keep raping him at every turn and possibly after all that sodomy he grew to enjoy it in some self-loathing and deplorable way. Or maybe Ken, even with his friend and mentor George W. Bush at his side, had never truly believed in American greatness in the first place and was just using the Christians and conservatives as a backdrop for his uncontrollably thrusting homoerotic fantasties, trolling the righteous for pure young men to violate with a viscous venom that pleasured him as the greatest imaginable insult to our homeland’s morality, a morality that many of us will trust just a little less today because of Ken Mehlman.

  • Did Stevie just admit that Bush dun goofed in a particular big way when it comes to the same values they both share AND didn’t damn a famous politician who’s on the same side as him and turned out to be gay or deny that he was a Christian or called him some kind of ‘liberal spy’?!

Praise or Condemn: Thumb up 10 Thumb down 3

    • And the consequences will never be the same!

Praise or Condemn: Thumb up 7 Thumb down 2

    • Well, as I said I believe President Bush needs to come clean on this issue. If he knew Mehlman was gay than it goes against each and every one of his supposed Evangelical values to hand the keys of power over to this man. I am waiting to hear from Bush to decide if he is culpable or not.

Praise or Condemn: Thumb up 6 Thumb down 7

      • Richard Johnson

Bush isn’t going to say diddly. He isn’t on a hate-filled anti-gay crusade like you are. The real journalists are already reporting that Mehlman met with the former president & first lady and they are fine with him being gay and coming out publicly.

So are you jealous that Mehlman has had the courage and conviction to come out?

Praise or Condemn: Thumb up 11 Thumb down 3

        • Hi Richard, yes I am aware that Mehlman phoned Bush just prior to his announcement. What I’m talking about was years earlier in the administration and how his homosexuality goes against everything that the President was preaching at the time. It’s a question of trust.

Praise or Condemn: Thumb up 4 Thumb down 5

          • Richard Johnson

You aren’t making sense. Your comment said you are waiting to hear what Bush will do or say now. I comment that he isn’t going to say anything and now you say you were talking about years ago. Which is it?

Praise or Condemn: Thumb up 1 Thumb down 2

  • Now she’ll really find out how accepting the liberal atheist homosexuals are. Republicans don’t have a problem with homosexuals (Ronald Reagan coined the phrase “some of my best friends are homosexuals”), it’s the left that is going to have a field day with her, picking away at her flesh with their vicious America-hating beaks. Hope she’s a masochist, that’s the only way she’ll weather the wrath of the lavender mafia that will never accept her and never forgive her for being a Republican.

Praise or Condemn: Thumb up 5 Thumb down 17

    • Why do you use feminine pronouns when speaking about a man?

And the left would be rightly justified in condemning him. He sold out his brothers and sisters for personal gain.

Praise or Condemn: Thumb up 14 Thumb down 2

      • Gay men do refer to each other as “she,”and as “sisters” as you suggest, but I have NEVER heard homosexual women refer to each other as “brothers.” Where do you come up with this “brothers and sisters” stuff? I think it’s presumptuous, and offensive to lesbians.

Praise or Condemn: Thumb up 1 Thumb down 0

    • Well, the republicans may keep silent on this to save themselves further shame. They’ll say it’s a
“personal” issue or, as I have written above, many conservative journalists will just not report on it at all. The gay press is divided, some welcoming, others condemning him for his past. Actually, he works now for KKR, one of the powerhouses of behind the scenes Republican party control in this country, so there is a double standard form of acceptance there. As a leverage buyout firm, they only care about the money, not family values.

What I don’t understand is why more conservatives AREN’T talking about this. If the republicans have a gay problem in their ranks it needs to be addressed. There is growing talk, with Laura Bush and the Cheney’s now supporting some gay rights or gay marriage, that there’s a growing movement within the party to get gay marriage passed. Even Ted Olson’s role in the Prop 8 trial has led many to question what’s going on (he was Bush’s lawyer in Florida for the 2000 election fight). But this would be a crucial mistake for the Republicans and would be an incredible insult to their Christian conservative base. Really, just a shameful turning their back on all the money and votes we have given them over the years. It would be outrageous and indefensible. And Christians should be worried! I feel as if I’ve been used…

      • Richard Johnson

“If the republicans have a gay problem in their ranks it needs to be addressed.”

Just a thought.. Maybe the GOP doesn’t see it as a problem? Ever heard of the Log Cabin Republicans?

Not everyone shares in your homophobia.

Praise or Condemn: Thumb up 4 Thumb down 2

  • Good upstanding Republicans catch this disease from evangelicals. Its too much contact with the likes of George Alan Rekers that turns them. Maybe, Ken went to a bar with Focus on the family’s John Paulk for a bit of ‘conversion therapy’. Or, maybe he spent a weekend in Trinity Broadcasting Network’s Paul Crouch’s log cabin. Or, maybe he simply had a bunk up and some crystal meth. with New life church’s Ted Haggard. Whatever, when people say the GOP is bed with the evangelicals, they often don’t realize that its literally true.

Praise or Condemn: Thumb up 10 Thumb down 3

    • Well, I believe that Washington D.C. is a small cesspool of intimate relationships and gossip. There happens to be a large gay population there, many of whom work as staffers for REPUBLICANS! I don’t believe it’s that Christian Evangelicals are encouraging politicians to engage in homosexuality, that’s taking things a bit too ridiculous to me. Rather, I believe it’s the atmosphere of D.C. itself with all the money and power floating around, the secrets and the sex, which encourages a man of means to take the wrong path if he has lost faith or didn’t have it to begin with.

Praise or Condemn: Thumb up 3 Thumb down 7

  • That last paragraph is one of the greatest I have ever read.

Praise or Condemn: Thumb up 8 Thumb down 4

  • “Despite the horrific wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the equally disturbing attempts to undermine Bush’s Evangelical Christian voice”

Are you honestly trying to claim that the attempts to undermine Bush’s Christianity is as disturbing as the deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent men, women, and children in Iraq and Afghanistan? You’re sick.

“he oversaw the ban of same-sex marriage in 21 states”

    What a wanker.

“Why does Ken Mehlman think that choosing the homosexual lifestyle is more important to him than the Republican values he once held so dear?”

Probably because, unlike republicanism, homosexuality is NOT a choice.

“It goes against all Biblical teaching and a leader like Bush should have shown more dedication to his faith in a situation like this.”

Ever heard of Separation of Church and State, dipshit?

“Also, putting someone who suffers from a disastrous personal problem in a high-powered governmental role poses an incredible national security risk.”

    Bullshit!

“To protect his place in history, President Bush truly needs to set the record straight.”

Oh, I see, so starting a war that accomplished nothing and killed hundreds of thousands of civilians isn’t what would mar Bush’s record – it’s the fact that he may have known about the homosexuality of a member of his cabinet. Go to hell, dude.

“It makes the Christian movement look rotten at its core”

No, this website and you accomplished that long ago.

Praise or Condemn: Thumb up 14 Thumb down 4

    • 1) Yes, I believe the wars overseas and the war for Christianity in America during Bush’s terms were equally appalling.

      2) Republicanism may be a choice, but it’s also a life philosophy and a moral foundation. It’s indefensible to me that he would abandon his morality so quickly just for a little male sex.

      3) “Ever heard of Separation of Church and State” — of course I have. What I am saying is that Bush promoted his United Methodist Fundamentalist beliefs within government bureaucracy and within his policy initiatives. To tap a homosexual to lead these initiatives seems hypocritical and risky to me.

      4) The CIA and other intelligence agencies long considered homosexuality a dangerous thing for their employees since it posed the possibility for blackmail.

      5) Bush has always been clear about his motivations in sending troops to the Middle East. This is a separate issue he needs to clear up, I truly believe that. He just had to know that Ken was gay.

Praise or Condemn: Thumb up 3 Thumb down 7

      • “1) Yes, I believe the wars overseas and the war for Christianity in America during Bush’s terms were equally appalling.”

That’s fucked up. But apparently the deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent people aren’t more horrific to you than the supposed “war for Christianity” in America, because they’re just Muslims, right? I forgot that you don’t give a shit about those “brown-skins” over in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“To tap a homosexual to lead these initiatives seems hypocritical and risky to me.”

Yes, because god forbid Bush actually look PAST his sexual orientation and focus on the man’s professional qualities and work ethics…

“4) The CIA and other intelligence agencies long considered homosexuality a dangerous thing for their employees since it posed the possibility for blackmail.”

  • I would like Stephenson Billings, the author, to realize that almost all straight people do not have to wrestle with gay desires the way you seem to be doing yourself. People have their natural (dare I say, God given) orientations, and you may have decided to reject yours for another, and this is your right, but this war you’re waging needs to be internal. If you are fearful that you could be lured into having sex with a man, or perhaps, you have been already and are afraid you may again, and have decided it is something you wish not to do, the only way you can succeed is by strengthening yourself. Certainly, constant exposure to the issue of homosexuality is not going to suppress your feelings (especially when you’re actually posting images from gay porn in your posts – the research of which you almost certainly see as legitimate for your cause and necessary to purveying your point). You are not going to eliminate the existence of homosexuality through these seemingly sometimes nonsensical rants, and you most certainly aren’t going to cause any gay person to reflect deeply and “convert”. I do not understand the “point” of your hatred.

Two points I do briefly want to make: 1. Study out of the University of Georgia: “Is homophobia associated with homosexual arousal?” indicates what most thinking people already know – that people showing homophobia are usually aroused by homosexual stimuli, ie., they’re hiding gay desires. I am slightly concerned that your internal war may be more complex than that, though. 2. Let’s be clear about one thing. Pride is a far more serious sin than homosexuality. Ezekiel 16:49 “Behold, this was the guilt of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters had pride, excess of food, and prosperous ease, but did not aid the poor and needy.” The belief that you know what everyone else should be doing so deeply, and the spread of this sheer visceral hatred, should both trouble you from a religious perspective.

I thank Jesus every day for this website and for Mr. Billings’ important work. I have prostate disease and turned to a magazine called “Men’s Health” because it had an article supposedly discussing treatments. The entire magazine is filled with nearly naked men posed lustfully, often in suggestive pairings. Their oiled, muscular bodies would tempt anyone! And I am a family man with several children. Bless you, Stephenson Billings, for doing God’s work!

  • Lawd Lawd… I have personally reached out to Ken Mehlman to set him back on the straight and narrow path. I personally prayed with Ted Haggard and he has been REDEEMED, in the name of Jaizuss! Ho gloray!!! For Ms. Mehlman I too have offered to pray the gay away. Log onto http://gga100.weebly.com/ and watch the Right Reverend Dr. Thurgood Goodlove, the Savedest man in the history of the Republican party weigh in on and deliver relationship advice which is Blessed and approved by the most high God with an assist from Jesus Christ his own self! The Right Reverend Dr. Thurgood Goodlove bravely tackles such vile and disgusting issues as threesomes, orgies, homosexuality, sexual addiction, and other instances of relations without the blessing of the institution of marriage. He is the most pious man in the world! Praise Jesus!!! http://gga100.weebly.com/shows-video.html

        • Name calling – how original – I’m constanttly surprised at how people who are obviously liberal (or at least claim to be) are so quick to use abusive and non-politicaly-correct words like ‘moron’, ‘crazy’, ‘insane’,etc. just because you encouter someone of the faith.. I forgive you brother…

Do you know what website you are reading?? These are supposedly the most conservative “Christians” around. EVERY single article is chock full of name calling and insults against race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, laws of nature…

Got another name for you – Hypocrite.

  • I liken being a good Christian conservative Republican to 1 John 3.

5But you know that he (Jesus) appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin.

Good Christian conservatives are perfect and without sin.

6No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.

Unless they do sin by being queer. In that case, they were never truly Republicans.
