Police believe gunman didn’t act alone…

Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords has been shot by an unknown gunman, who bystanders describe as a male in his late teens or early twenties.

The sheriff’s deputy office of Pima County had earlier reported that they Congresswoman is dead and that at least nine of her staffers are wounded. Updated reports reveal that Congresswoman Giffords is alive and a doctor who tended to civil servant said that Giffords is alive, is following verbal commands and though it still in critical condition, is pulling through.

The shooting took place at the “Congress On Your Corner” event, that Giffords held to give her constituents a chance to engage her directly. The event was being held at a Safeway in Tucson.

Reports detail the gunman used a semi-automatic weapon. The alleged shooter quickly rounded a corner and began firing, as a shocked crowd dispersed. Unconfirmed details show that Giffords may have been shot in the head.

The gunman tried to escape, but a citizen in the crowd pursued him by foot and tackled him, holding him down until authorities could properly restrain and subdue the alleged assassin.

There is preliminary speculation that the motive for this crime may have involved Gifford’s stance on immigration law in Arizona.

Republican Jeff Flake, Gifford’s GOP counterpart, described Giffords as ‘fearless’ and ‘tenacious’. According to Flake, Gifford’s office was not long ago vandalized, as a potential intimidation tactic against the congresswoman.

Flake also reports that “‘emotions have been running high over several issues in Arizona, and immigration is one of them’”.

During this time, let us keep the best of thoughts and our prayer with Giffords, each person on her staff and all of their friends and family.

  • I’m surprised you didn’t try to blame this on Obama.

  • She was tough on anti-immigration law and there is speculation it was a liberal extremist who did this. Very tragic and her family and friends are definitely in prayers during this trying time.

    • Speculation does not equal confirmation, and you’re just tossing the blame onto a group that you don’t like. Who’s to say it wasn’t a hardcore Christian who was off his meds?

      • What I’m hearing on various reports is that this guy seems to have some sort of psych issues, though authorities will look for a political motive as well since Giffords and also the judge who was murdered both had received some sort of political threats in past months. This is all very sad; best of thoughts to all family, friends and the people Arizona involved in this one.

    • There is? Because, from what I’ve read, the speculation is that the shooting could be linked to Gifford’s voting for the health care reform bill in the last Congress. It was that vote which earned her a place on Sarah Palin’s list of twenty Congress members who needed to be “removed from office”.

Also, cite a source that says that she’s dead? She was shot in the head, yes, and will most likely die, but it’s possible for her to recover from that. This morning, she was alive.

  • There are more details that have emerged about this tragedy.

First, Representative Gifford was shot through the brain, but doctors remain optimistic that she will survive.

Sadly, six people as of now are dead from the massacre. It is very heart-breaking and words cannot express the love and prayers for the family and friends of these victim’s families.

The alleged shooter is a 22-year-old man named Jared Loughner. He allegedly gave announcement on various social media sites, giving implication of the crimes for which he is accused. It is revealing of a trend we see emerging in the Myspace/Facebook generation and will certainly bring more talk about regulating these potentially dangerous and easily exploited communication tools.

Video coverage of the event as you who are keeping up to date at home and such is surfacing. http://www.kgun9.com/global/story.asp?s=13807722

    • Dumbass. If he did, in fact, announce his intentions on “various social media sites”, then that’s a reason to keep an eye on those sites, not regulate them. It’s a far-easier method for preventing tragedies than just surrounding people 24/7.

But, glad to see that at least you were able to cite some sources. I’d say well done, but the paragraph about social networking websites was just plain bullshit. Besides that, your grammar and spelling? It’s atrocious. Go back to school.
