Cats are very reprehensible creatures. I’d like to remind everyone that each year, many people are mauled and killed by cats. While cat lovers will surely hiss and cry out in feminist rage, let’s also make it clear that dogs do attack people. This is due to social training. A pure cat, however, will kill you if given the chance. Cats are cunning, calculating and malicious. They live to torment other animals.
In the following video, the footage is graphic. There is a tiny, adorable snake that comes across a fat coon catty. The cat, being evil, taunts the snake with its tail, working it into a defensive frenzy. After the snake spends all of its energy and is ready to give up and retreat, the cat then suddenly jumps out in a predatory rage, a crazed look in its eyes and it savages the poor snake with its unleashed claws. The cat thrashes the snake again and again, and if that snake had time to cry out before it died by the evil paws of this cat, it would.

-Also hard to differentiate T. gondii from other harmless organisms like Hammondia hammondi & Besnoitia darlingi
-ELISA test kits are also available
-Be sure the lab uses a feline test & tests for both IgM & IgG antibody titers:
-IgM is an antibody made locally in mucosal-associated lymphatic tissue. It is produced early in the immune response to a pathogen, before IgG. IgM is initially produced to fight antigens but soon decreases & allows IgG to take over
+ for either = no active shedding
IgG Antibody + = Exposure
IgM titer of >1:64 is indicative of active toxoplasmosis, also a positive IgM & a negative IgG indicates active infection but the cat is beyond shedding at this time or a 4-fold increase in IgG
Dx is based on:
1. Ab serum levels (although sick cats can be antibody negative or only IgM positive)
2. Signs of toxoplasmosis
3. Exclusion of all else
4. + response to Tx
Treatment
-Clindamycin (Antirobe) orally 25 mg/kg divided PO BID for 4-6 weeks
-Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (TMS/DiTrim)
-Some are concurrently Tx w/ prednisolone
-Non eye or non CNS toxo signs will usually resolve 2-3 days post drug administration
-Does not get rid of the Toxoplasma organism, just controls it
Pregnancy & Zoonoses
THERE IS A 40% CHANCE THAT SERONEGATIVE WOMEN EXPOSED TO T. GONDII DURING OR POSSIBLY JUST BEFORE (<6 mon) PREGNANCY WILL PASS T. GONDII TO THEIR UNBORN CHILD CAUSING “CONGENITAL TOXOPLASMOSIS”
-2 in 1000 babies are born each year with toxoplasmosis
-1 in 10 babies are born with severe toxoplasmosis and can die within a few days after birth
-Toxoplasmosis can result in miscarriage or stillbirth
-Toxoplasmosis infected babies can be born with varying degrees of neurological conditions including hydrocephalus and microcephaly
-55-80% of babies who appear normal at birth develop problems months to years later including mental disabilities, cerebral palsy, seizures, ocular disease, hearing loss and learning disabilities
IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT PREGNANT WOMEN ARE MORE AT RISK FROM INGESTING POORLY COOKED MEAT OR CONTAMINATED FOOD/BEVERAGES THAN FROM FELINE EXPOSURE
If a cat is tested and have a positive titer for toxoplasmosis, it is EXTREMELY unlikely to re-shed oocysts and is therefore not a threat!
If the owner has a positive toxoplasmosis titer, there is NO risk to the fetus during pregnancy!
Pregnant women at greatest risk are toxo negative and living with a toxo negative cat, particularly an outdoor cat or kitten
Women who are worried & contemplating pregnancy, for peace of mind, can:
-Get tested for toxoplasmosis
-Have their cat tested for toxoplasmosis
CAUTION: Do not bring any new cats, especially kittens, into the household
Although cats are the definitive host and the only species capable of passing oocysts, CAT OWNERSHIP IS NOT ASSOCIATED WITH AN INCREASE IN TOXOPLASMOSIS IN PEOPLE
Also, cats are fastidious and do not usually leave feces (thus oocysts) on their fur

1. You bathe the cats in COLD water. Cats already hate water, especially cold water. Since you say that you wait with a smile on your face until the cats are euthanized, the natural assumption is that you don’t bathe the cats for their own good, but rather to make them suffer as much as possible before death.
2. You strap the cats down into a suitcase. As you said yourself, cats hate to be restrained. It frightens them. Do YOU enjoy being strapped down to something with no way of getting free? Unless you’re into BDSM, I doubt it.
3. You zip the suitcase up and leave it like that overnight. Not only are the poor cats restrained, which freaks them out immensely, but they are being “stored”, as though they were objects, in a dark, small enclosure that they cannot get out of. Although the suitcases are obviously not 100% airtight, CO2 eventually builds up and makes the cats freak out even more.

They are then taken home afterwards, where they are given kisses and treats and lots of love. There is a world of difference between that and strapping a cat down in a suitcase, zipping it up, and leaving it in the garage overnight so that you can take them to the shelter, where you hope they will be euthanized later in the week.
