Last year MSNBC Dateline had a big special that talked about the not thousands or millions, but BILLIONS of dollars of unclaimed money and property that goes, well, unclaimed each year.

With a tough economy and fickle market prices, this day every penny of your money counts and having some money just floating around is surely a welcome thought.

The Early Show touched on this topic today, and there has been a suggestion that Americans can use various internet sites, including state treasuries, to see if they have missing money.

In the following links, you’ll see a story that features state treasuries and contact numbers you can use to find if you have any unclaimed money in your state.

Alternatively, several sites that have been suggested and that you should use, with scrutiny, are missingmoney.com and unclaimed.org.   A thousand dollar or more check would be a great surprise around this time, so definitely make sure you do your research and see if you have any money that’s yours!
