London, England (chrisTwire News) — International Olympic Committee insiders speaking on the condition of anonymity have revealed to newswire sources that the 2012 London Games of the Summer Olympiad will be cancelled due to the riots. Riots broke out Aug 4th in London and have now spread all across the United Kingdom.
The timing of the outbreaks of riots in London couldn’t have been worse for organizers of the city’s 2012 Summer Olympics. Top executives of the International Olympic Committee and from nearly 200 nations are in London for meetings and test events in such sports as beach volleyball, badminton and cycling.
An IOC representative from the Ivory Coast had this to say:
There is no way London will now be able to host the Olympic Games in 2012. A formal announcement will come as soon as we come do a decision about whether it should be cancelled or moved. Currently Beijing has offered to host the games as many of their facilities are still in place form the 2008 Games.
One option being put forth is that we will have the first true “world games” with events being spread amongst all the continents. This idea has picked up momentum in the last few hours.
This will mark the first time since the Olympics has been disrupted since 1944 when the games were not held because of World War II. Ironically, those 1944 games were also scheduled to occur in London.
More details will be posted here as the situation develops…
