I don’t find this funny at all. In fact, I would be rather ashamed to discover that any of my children dressed up in this way. How does someone drop so low that they need to act out like this? It’s sad to see such a lack of self esteem, particularly in our children and any parent would be negligent not to pursue this activity if discovered. We have let drugs and radical sex pass a “rite of passage” for our teenagers today, but that’s just wrong. When you think of all the problems connected to addiction, the utter failure that occurs in one’s life and then add premaritial pregnancy it destroys such promise.
I think any people who adhere to this sort of lifestyle need to take a good, hard look at yourselves. What kind of adult do you imagine yourself becoming? Drug abuse and homosexual experimentation are both connected to a lack of self-esteem in young people. These children discussed here are clearly vulnerable and lost. The quick fantasy world of a marijuana or cocaine high lets them escape, but for a few brief moments, the reality of their own imperfections and weaknesses. As the addiction takes hold, the high is lost but the desire grows stronger. Funny, how the same can be said of teenage music.
A teen hooked on anything– whether it be sex, music or narcotics– can quickly take any means necessary to earn cash for the next fix, even selling their bodies or worse. Unscrupulous older men know this and specifically prey on young, naïve children. I fail to see how this is funny or insignificant to you.
Frankly, I have never listened to this sort of music, but anything that glorifies a whole package of radical beliefs cannot be contributing anything good to society. We saw this with “heavy metal” and other youth fads in the 90s. The Black Veiled Bides fits right into this pattern and the clothing styles they force on children make it even more disgusting. Are you honestly saying you want to encourage teens to rebel violently like this? Do you support marijuana legalization and the repeal of the age of consent laws? Those two ideas are indefensible in my book. Sex with underage children is one of the foulest things imaginable.
On a personal note, I work with children and have a deep understanding of the issues they face. Whether or not I’m a parent is regardless. I know something dangerous and wrong when I see it. That’s called human instinct. It worries me that this is something you so utterly lack.

Do you know, Stephenson, that the name of the band is Black Veil Brides, and that the it’s symbolic of a nun entering the church? In her ceremony, she dons a black veil. Andy was raised very religiously and loved the idea of giving yourself up completely for something. In a nun’s case, it’s God. In Andy’s case, it’s a message of hope and love. They even open their first album begins with the words “The following are stories of love, life, and never giving in” The songs are about his sufferings as a teenager, mainly from people who fail to educate themselves on things like this. If you’re going to read sites like this, fine, but look at sites from the other side of the bias, too, and ones that are relatively objective.
Another big appeal of Black Veil Brides to most girls is the raw emotion of their love songs. “Mortician’s Daughter” and “Die for You” are about his love for a girl that’s so strong, he would wait his entire life (Mortician’s Daughter) or even GIVE his life (Die for You) for her.

There’s power in those words. They heal and they lend hope to millions of girls who’ve had their hearts broken one too many times. None of their songs encourage promiscuity, nor do they encourage violence, self-harm, or purposefully contracting STDs. They’re about never giving in, never giving up, and never backing down.
My mom, truthfully, was a little freaked when I started talking about this band all the time. Do you know what she did, though? She listened to the music and looked at the lyrics and she realized something. Black Veil Brides were and are a positive influence on her daughter, not a negative one like a lot of pop songs today. Ke$ha proclaims “Take it off!” and has song titles like ‘Hungover’, ‘Tease me’. These artists pose a far greater ‘risk’ to teenagers today then Black Veil Brides.

Hmm, from reading this post, I guess half of the cancer patients are going to hell, right? Some smoke marijuana because the pain is just too bad. They are “thrown” not at purely at people because have faith, many atheists and all liberals (by definition) are accepting of other people’s beliefs. They are only mentioned to those that will say certain things are incorrect because the bible says so. It is done to show how hypocritical those that use “the bible says it is wrong so it must be wrong” defence for their hatred of others. (mainly as a result of their sexuality) Those that use the above defence usually pick and choose what rules of the bible they follow are hypocrites.

As a major Kiss fan and at the young age of 46, I allow my 14 year old daughter to listen to BVB and I sat down and listened to them also, just to see what she was into. My daughter has a great head on her shoulders, and she would rather punch someone in the face then let them do what is described in this article. How disgusting and i at first thought this article was a joke, but you people take this for real. If anyone, child, teenager or adult allows themself to be treated like that by someone, or someone’s they seriously need some mental intervention, but I highly doubt the music made them do it. When this article talks about high priestesses and the bubonic touch are you sure they aren’t talking about the girls who seem good and pure and get away with anything. This band exists because these teenage boys worked hard because they were bullied in school. I have to say Mr. Billings, this article genuinely appalled me. As a Christian teen who attends church twice a week along with once a week Bible study and listens to Black Veil Brides I was thoroughly insulted. I am not sexually active and do not use drugs or drink at all. I do my best to be my best for God, but do I put on make up and go to their concerts? Yes, because I love what they stand for. BVB is all about acceptance, love, and hope. I was bullied and teased and treated poorly to the point of attempting suicide and Black Veil Brides message and music saved my life and gave me the strength and hope to be able to go to go the church. I wouldn’t do the things you said we do in this article and I know a lot of people in the BVB army and none of them do this either. The reason so many people hate religion and the reason I used to is people like you, and I do not mean to offend you at all, but you are really judgmental and close minded, and it is only going to hurt other people. Doing this is only going to hurt your cause Mr. Billings, not help it. I was honestly very hurt by reading this, I’m a very loving person and I care about everyone and I’m not mad at you simply because you do not understand us, but I do ask you to try to accept and understand us. You do realize that none of this is real right? first of all, the author didn’t even get the name of the band right, its Black Veil Brides, not Veiled. Also, if he were a true journalist, he wouldn’t have incorporated his sexist opinions about women needing to be controlled in the article.
None of those “rights of passage” that are mentioned even happen. All you need to do to be in the BVB army is be a fan of the music. And if you even listen to the words of the songs, its not satanic at all. The band has stated many times that they’re all about being yourself and not listening to what bullies like you have to say about how we live. I just feel like replaying to this now.
But I have always wondered why older people just can’t approve the younger people. I get that when you were young, times were different and nobody expressed themselves back then. But it’s 2011 now. We have a right to express ourselves. And you can’t make us feel bad about it.

Love does not dishonour others. We, as children of God, are supposed to love everyone. Equally. You just dishonoured a lot of people.
Do you realize that almost all of their fans, became fans in the first place, because they didn’t feel love and acceptance anywhere else? They want to be themselves, they don’t go through that creepy ritual that was described above. This band teaches them love and self-respect, not what drugs and alcohol will give them the best high.
I am a proud Christian. Very proud. I also listen to Black Veil Brides. I appreciate the artistry behind their makeup. I appreciate the guts it would take to wear what they do in front of people who judge them as severely as you. I appreciate the fact that they can play their instruments.
If you don’t believe that I’m Christian, well, I have news for you. I plan on going in to youth ministry when I graduate. I’ve already helped in the baptisms of two girls who never would have considered it if God hadn’t used me and my friend to help them. I counselled a Christian camp with a girl who told my friend “I’m not here for the Christian, I’m here for the camp.” I only spent two nights at that camp, but after the first night I was there, she had decided she wanted a new life, and she got one the morning that she left that camp. People who listen to Black Veil Brides are by no means devil worshipers. You also do not have to complete a ridiculous ritual, as what was mentioned, in order to be inducted into the BVB Army. That is just their fan base. They may have a dark appearance, but what you’re saying about people who dress like them is a complete stereotype. Saying that is just like saying that all people who listen to country music ride horse, wear cowboy hats and cowboy boots, and are rodeo stars.
First of all, Andy Six did not select this number by means of Satan. It was his lucky number, and also his hockey number when he played in high school. Let me remind you that Andy was bullied, and often times players would try to hit him in the face between the grids of his goalie mask, or vandalize his house because he was different. No matter how much people tried to make him quit by doing these nasty things to him, he still kept on and made those negative things that had happened to him fuel the fire to excel at what he was doing. He never gave up, and that’s what a majority of their songs are about. Standing up for yourself and believing in yourself, not for what you look like, or what music you listen to, but for who you are inside. Now how do these lyrical messages preach sex, drugs, STDs, and worshiping the devil?
I have met all the members of the Black Veil Brides, and they are truly awesome people. They are the sweetest guys you will ever meet, and will give anyone a chance, no matter what they look like, or even what religion they are. In fact, they stand up for those who are victims of being bullied because of their faith. If there were more people like them in the world, and less of the ignorant people, this world would be a better and more peaceful place. Also, although they like to have a good time, they do not do drugs or condone the use of drugs. The guitarist, Jinxx, is also completely faithful to his fiance. They look for the beauty in life no matter what the situation, and inspire kids to be who they are inside, love with all their heart, and follow their dreams.
I am by no means a teenager. I am a 25 year old, who has a very stable and high paying job, graduated 4th of my class with a 4.0 grade point average, and was on the Deans List in college. I also am a homeowner and have a nice vehicle, both of which I paid for myself without any help of others. I am also grateful for my abundance of friends and loving family.
What might surprise you after reading that statement is yes, I listen to hard rock and metal music, and no, I am by no means a Satan worshiper, and do believe in God, and thank him every night for everything in my life that he has given me. I do also embrace the freedom of expressing myself. I do dress in black, and wear heavy eyeliner and black eye shadow. I do have tattoos, I do have crazy hair with a different color to accentuate the black every few weeks.
Now, after stating who I am and what I’ve accomplished, you may think of me as a successful person. Does this sound like the type of person you are referencing? However, by your comments, if I had not told you about who I am, just what I looked like, you would likely judge me and think of me as a deviant soul with low self esteem, very few friends, uneducated, lost or vulnerable, and a criminal. None of these thoughts would be the truth. Because of this, it completely sickens me that there are people out there in the world today that would think like this!
I’m by no means an uneducated person and am very confident in myself with the way I am now. In fact, I did suffer from self esteem issues when I was what you may consider to be “normal.” I used to be completely unhappy and insecure with myself because I was afraid that people wouldn’t like me for who I was inside, just because of how I looked. However, through years of experience and past mistakes, I have come to realize that the people who do matter will stick with you no matter what you look like. Over these years of “finding myself” I got tired of putting up an act to make friends. In fact, after I started embracing my unique self, and quit trying to live up to the “normal” standard, I became very happy. My depression started to fade away, and I actually have far more friends, and true friends at that, than I did during those years of trying to fit in in a small rural Midwestern town. Although I may be intimidating at first, once someone talks to me, they will find me to be a cheerful, happy and accepting person.
Now that I embrace my true self, I stand up for myself and don’t let people walk all over me like they did before. I’m confident, love myself, and am most of all happy because I have embraced my uniqueness. This does not mean I’m a a drug addict, or promiscuous. I’ve never touched drugs, and sex is not something that is a huge part of my life, yet you may see me on the streets and think of me as sinful because of my ripped fishnets and dyed hair, and tattoos and judge me for who I am. Please think of this before filling your mind with hateful thoughts based upon the stereotypes that you read about, or see on TV.
Just because people listen to rock music, and dress in black does not mean that they do not have pure hearts. People who have pure hearts hold no judgement against another for the color of their skin, sexual orientation, what music they listen to, how they dress, etc. They are accepting of people for who they are inside. Think about that the next time that you decide to say the things you have, or compare Black Veil Brides, or the people who listen to their music, to things like drug addicts, or sex with underage children. Your comparison in your later post to selling your body for a fix is just outrageous, and I don’t understand how that is even relatively similar. Last time I checked, listening to music was not breaking the law, or hurting anyone else.
I do really hope that this is just a joke because this article made me sick to my stomach, as did your comments defending the slanderous remarks about the Black Veil Brides and those that look up to them. If this article, and your comments are serious, I do pray for you to see the good in people, and not weigh on your discomforts of how someone looks. It is people like the Black Veil Brides who save the kids today that are bullied by comments such as yours. While they are assisting in the self confidence and dreams of today’s younger generation, you’re killing them with your snide remarks. Remember that before you decide to judge someone based upon what they look like instead of who they actually are inside.

First of all I am roman catholic, but I am goth. Second of all most metal bands are christian rock, but they do not peg themselves as that because people discrimiate. So stop judging people. So, sense I listen to this band, and happen to think they’re a pretty good one, I’m an immoral piece of shit? This is one of my favorite bands, and I hate to burst your bubble, but I’m one of the many teenagers who listen to them that have a brain and a will to think on my own.
