Is Canada Hoarding America’s Natural Resources?
From the dawn of this continent’s recorded history, the fortunes of the United States and Canada have been fortuitously intertwined. Both nations were populated by an enterprising and morally ambitious stock of Europeans in search of a blank template. They envisioned something pure and righteous, wondrous and bold. They carried with them the noblest ideals of Christianity. The Americas presented these pilgrims with God’s rich bounty of land and resources.
The United States embraced the fortitude of political independence while Canada stayed close to its English mother. One country thrived and grew to become a beacon of sanctified primacy on the planet, leading the way for the lesser people on God’s Green Earth. Yes, the third worlders, the Orientals and even the denizens of communist nations have yearned for those things that the United States represents: freedom, faith and fruitfulness. We have succeeded as a people because of that manifest destiny laid out before us, a destiny which includes all of the Western hemisphere and its struggling populations.
Yet in this pursuit of national glory, our dear cousins to the north have been forsaken. That nation has languished, cold and inhospitable, barren and underpopulated. But there is something pure in Canada as well, something about its people who can still trace their ancestry back to the most flawless of European bloodlines. These clear-faced children retain the glimmer that propelled the early United States to its revolutionary ferment. They are decent, vital men and women who still yearn for freedom. And the United States truly encapsulates the very freedom they so desire.
For Christians, news of Canadian suppression is heart wrenching. Censorship of Biblical morality is rearing its ugly head from Vancouver to Niagara Falls. The Bible is banned in the school system, preaching ethics on topics such as homosexuality can get you arrested. The thought police have clearly been embedded in this once respectable culture. In every way, this is a violation of basic human rights– the freedom to believe, the freedom to speak the truth and the freedom to love our Lord God. This is a place in desperate need of rescue and healing.
With the labor and green parties so dominant in Canada, another disturbing facet of danger has taken hold. The country hides a plethora of resources but little of them have been harvested. Oil, natural gas, timber, fish, game, gold, silver, nickel, copper, zinc, lead, coal and water are but a few of the advantages these plains offer. No, the ecological lobby is far too powerful to allow such precious gifts to be tapped. They have prevented a natural and necessary push for survival. These types would rather embrace death than disturb a single spruce tree. Yet China and other foreign countries are pressuring our vulnerable neighbor to submit to their will. This scenario could very well be the Canadian people’s demise. And ours as well.
In the United States, our most pressing problems are that of illegal Mexican aliens and a dependence on foreign supplies. The Canadian solution is a ready answer to these threats. Those thinly populated lands up north would be gracious temporary homelands for the Mexican peoples. It would relieve our midwestern states of the worrisome costs of educating, feeding and housing these migrants. Work in the businesses of tree cutting, oil exploration and mining would provide the industrious amongst them with jobs. It would also give the United States some much needed breathing room for its native-born teeming masses.
More importantly, assuming Canada into American hands would save the north itself from the dustbin of history. Canadians have failed to achieve a global standing. They are not known for having the vision or the faith to constructively contribute to the planet-wide fight for justice. Their provinces from coast to coast have been overshadowed by the more successful states to the south. They have squandered whatever inheritance came with independence from England. They have grown stale and listless in the postwar years. Now, the rise of intolerance threatens to further weaken this country and open its doors to hordes of Muslim immigrants who are already targeting Canada as a base for their questionable activities.
Yet none of this really matters when compared to the moral righteousness of an American union with the lands of Canada. It has been our manifest destiny since the first days colonial pilgrims set foot on this fertile land. These territories were meant by the light of God to be joined in bounty. We are long lost relatives who need to be reunited. Our separation has been painful and far too long. There is so much hope that would spring forth from such a marriage. America needs the resources of the Canadian territory to propel itself into the future. We need to wean ourselves off of the oil of the Middle East. The cheap products of Mexico corrupt our labor force. Connecting to the gene pool of our ancestors will pump new blood into the righteous American man and his family.
Are our politicians brave enough to embrace such a vision? Maybe the adoption of Canada by the United States needs to come from a Christian consensus. We should see the moral imperative at play here and voice our love, our desire to rescue these forlorn people and their bountiful land. There will be some Canadians who rebel against such passion, but time will win them over to the newfound glory as a province of the world’s greatest nation, fueling our rugged strength and moral fiber as we rush forward into this bright, new millennium. Indeed, our ultimate destiny is far greater than the borders of this simple continent and we must, with the Lord’s blessing, be ready.

I have oft thought it unfortunate that American blacks the free flow of Mexicans to Canada. It is further unfortunate that mexicans are typically to lazy to keep going. They get bogged down here and stagnate our culture and society as well as the economy.
I wish there were someway to get them to Canada without them stopping here in America. One part that I disagree with you is that typically mexicans are not intelligent enough I am afraid to properly work mining equipment. Just look at that batch of mexicans that got trapped in chile a year ago.

We have done more to spread democracy over the world than the US ever has. Canada has provided many more forces to every peacekeeping mission you can think of. Our intelligence agency has never orchestrated a political coup to replace a democratically elected government in a sovereign nation, something the US has done in over half of Latin America, and several middle eastern countries (thanks CIA!).
Poll after poll has shown the vast majority of our population has absolutely no interest in becoming the “51st state”. Your current Socio-economic situation lowers that interest even more. We have, and will continue to, take care of our own population. Our economy and banks are both healthy because of reasonable oversight, something your country is severely lacking in.
To join with you would offer us no incentive, other than to say we are US citizens. Our dollar is currently worth more, we are more respected in the UN, our schools rank much higher than yours, our standard of living is every bit as high, and our medical expenses are lower than yours, and our scientists are taken seriously and actually funded.
You say our people are the ones envious of your land of plenty, when it is you who covet our resources, and seek to both exploit that which is not yours, and use us as a dumping pit to get rid of the Mexican workers that are willing to do the work in your country that no one else will.

The unification of US and Canada has been proposed many times through our history. In the early days of the republic, it was seen as a strategic and military move. Later, some argued that it would save resources because we could better link up transportation, governmental expenditures and the like. I understand your argument about a spiritual component and this is also a good way to look at it. There is a big number of liberals up there so that would be a factor, but I think it a hundred years after such a union, we would just take it as an intelligent given, like the reunification of East and West Germany.

I spent 2 months running around Northern B.C. this summer for work.
It’s absolutely wonderful up there. I would wish for no urbanization up there. Driving the highway and not seeing a town for hours at a time…. it’s just so beautiful.
And then driving up forest service roads and seeing all the wildlife intermixed with logging trucks. Nothing compares.
If there was work for my in my field up there, I would leave Vancouver and move tomorrow.

As a Canadian, let me assure you that we’re doing just fine.
Our economy has, for the most part, survived through the turmoil of the recent global economic downturns. No one in Canada is selling their houses to pay for medical bills.
We have a country where municipalities elect conservative Muslim mayors. We have born again Christians who are decidedly liberal.
And, for the most part, it all works.
We, like most of the rest of the world, don’t see the US as “the worlds greatest nation” (it’s probably about the 10th or 12th greatest)and would prefer that Americans keep their hands out of Canada, thank you very much.

There is so much wrong with this article.
First, it presupposes that Canada’s Natural Resources somehow belong to the US. They don’t. They belong to Canada as much.
Second, it presupposes a moral superiority of being a “Christian” nation. From what I’ve seen, it’s not. I travel to the US extensively and I see a façade of Christianity, but not a lot of real Christianity.
Third, it presupposes a better governmental system. Well, for a supposedly better governmental system, it has a lot of shortcomings. Our system isn’t perfect either, but when we vote to change our government, it actually changes. We went from a Liberal majority government to a Conservative minority government and now a Conservative majority Government. Something that actually means something. Guess what, they’re actually making improvements such as removing the useless gun registry and removing Section 13 from the Canadian Human Rights Act (the section which is the most oppressive of free speech).
Fourth, your country is fiscally screwed. In 50 years, I wouldn’t be surprised if Americans were flooding over my border looking for work. We do not have the level of debt load that you have, though its nothing to shake a fist at. The difference is, we’re actually making real cuts, not fake cuts like your congressional “super committee”.
Fifth, the Green party is certainly not “prominent”. They only received 3.9% of the votes on the 2011 General Election. The “Labour party” (which we do not have so I suppose you mean the NDP) garnered 30.6% of the popular vote, but it was mostly concentrated in the province of Quebec. You don’t know your Canadian Politics.
I think there are some absolutely great things about your republic. Your Constitution above all else. But check that log in your own eye, before you note the sliver in mine.

I’m simply exalting the angelic, God given American beauty of this young lady.
In fact I think I’m going to propose to the church elders that our congregation’s choir ladies wear gowns like that during the hot summer months we experience here in the south. Since they are not allowed to voice their opinions my church, we have to make decisions like this for them in the interest of their ultimate comfort while praising the almighty with hymns.

I assumed this had to be a joke article because of just how ignorant/arrogant it is.
This is ridiculous. Stop acting like we’re horrible people for preventing a bunch of bible-thumping morons to dictate our school curriculum, our laws, our ways of life.
I for one, am proud to come from a country that doesn’t blindly accept this insane mixing of church and state that the US seems to. Implying that we need the US’s help to take advantage of our resources, to guide us morally, is absolutely ridiculous. The fact that you listed our pristine wilderness of proof of just how terribly we’re doing at harvesting resources is ridiculous. We lack for nothing in Canada, in fact, I would go so far as to state that as a country, we are actually doing a fair bit better than you. It’s been stated before, but no one here is selling their houses, or dying because they can’t afford health care.
Another point of fact, is that Canada consistently beats America across the board on education. The fact that only 14% of your citizenship think evolution is “definitely true” proves that allowing people who are basing their scientific notions on a book that was written thousands of years ago, by ignorant MEN, is not a good approach when it comes to the science classroom.
So stop being ridiculous, and if you think we’re a peaceful nation, wait until America suggests they absorb us.

I wonder how much of Canada’s good fortune and political stability is due to American influence and protection. When it comes to the economy, your way of life is supported by American dollars for we are the main purchaser of your products and resources. In fact, Canada would not be able to afford their socialist policies were it not for the democratic monies flowing in, monies I should add that are so large because of the artifically inflated prices that socialism creates. Ultimately our nations are far more linked than people like you would admit and we cannot deny that you have certainly profited a bit shamefully off of our democracy. Interesting that very little gratitude flows across Canada’s border into the U.S.

Again, I will not deny a link between the nations. The cultures are very similar. However, Canada benefits from China and India economically nowadays. The US was its number one trading partner. To say that Canada is not economically independent is another example of a poorly researched statement.

Being a Canadian, I will say that the U.S has overshadowed Canada very much. However, this what not due to lack of vision. It had to do with climate, the dust bowl (which hurt Canada’s growing population more than U.S), and corruption in the early loyalist government in 1800s. Fortunately freedom and good government abound nowadays in Canada. You forget that Canada as a nation is only 144 years old and has achieved a lot in the past 200 years. Canada had a major presence in World Wars 1 and 2, including the Korean war and the war in Afghanistan. Mr. Billings, I would suggest that before you make provocative statements such as those above in the article, you do a little research. beforehand. For example the following statement couldn’t be farther from truth “Now, the rise of intolerance threatens to further weaken this country and open its doors to hordes of Muslim immigrants who are already targeting Canada as a base for their questionable activities”. There is no Muslim hoard, they are just people looking for refuge in a peaceful and tolerant society. I see it everyday. This is a great country to immigrate to. People are very accepting and tolerant and believe me, we do not “hunger for freedom”.
