The multi-millionaire athletes and billionaire owners of the Miami Heat put on their hoodies in support of Trayvon Martin. Trayvon is the young teenage boy who was ruthlessly gunned down by a punk named Zimmerman, who is claiming self-defense was his cause for shooting the boy who was armed with skittles, an Arizona ice tea and talking to his girlfriend on the phone. Trayvon apparently deserved to be shot for wearing a hoodie.
Growing up in the South, if I shot every person in a white hoodie who scared me and my father and grandfather did the same, we’d have quiet the tally sheet going on. What’s even more sad about this case, however, is that it’s being made about race.
You cannot just go and shoot a teenage boy, when the phone call makes it pretty damned clear that he was walking away from you, not messing with your private property and wanted nothing to do with you, whatsoever. That is called murder. Not a hate crime. Not an issue for Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton. That’s just called a hate crime in itself.
Sure, the city has some racism that’s being exposed, but for the case itself, make sure Zimmerman is charged with premeditated murder if he deserves it. Then when that is decided, tack on hate crimes, stalking a minor and whatever other little thing that can be tallied up.
