  • Will Obama's legacy be that of Lincoln, ushering in a new age of equality to a turmoiled America? With his passionate and open talk of gay marriage today, it may be the start of a more open and honest America when it comes to issues dealing with gay marriage.

United States President Barack Obama says ‘I think same-sex couples should be able to get married.’ There is no mistake about it, Barack Obama has come out in defense of gay marriage. Obama states that he thought Civil Unions would be sufficient, but now realizes that gays should have a full right to marry.

Obama’s words come not even 24-hours after the state of North Carolina prohibited gay marriage within the state using N.C. Amendment 1.

While homosexuality and gay marriage go against the mores of the Bible, on a political level Barack Obama is doing the right thing and it is reflective of the equality represented by the Democratic party. Gay people should have the right to marry and be miserable just like the rest of us. Also, this will be very good for the economy.

Shame on North Carolina for not being able to separate their religious thoughts from national law. Adults can romantically love any other adult that they want. There is nothing outside a religious argument that can make that statement otherwise untrue. Therefore, by US Constitution, everyone should have the right to marry.

Kudos to Barack Obama for standing up for his values and his beliefs. That’s just something we don’t see enough in America anymore.
