My mother rescued a cat off the highway and named him Mason. I went to visit her and saw the tiny kitten. he looked at me with those big,earnest eyes and I gave him a good scratching. he was all for that, I pet him down to his tail and scratched behind his ears and he purred like an engine. when I went inside (he’s currently an outside cat) he yowled for quite a long time for me to com back. I don’t think I could ever find a comparably affectionate companion.

Claire’s lack of understanding of basic science never ceases to astound me. But I really shouldn’t be surprised at this point. No animal including humans naturally has the ability to digest milk after early childhood, especially from another species. However in northern Europe generations ago people started drinking milk. Eventually the ability to digest lactose was passed down to future generations. Many races of humans still don’t have this ability or are just now receiving it. This was all explained in the award winning 17 part chrisTwire TV special “How to Hydrate a cat”. Now giving a cat milk is just fine, people do it all the time and slowly cats too are getting the ability to digest lactose.

It’s a bad idea, in general, for an amateur to feed cats. Whenever I have to hold a cat until my local shelter opens, I feed them every once in a while but make sure to keep them properly isolated in case they fall ill from what I’m feeding them.

I can see if they don’t know cats cannot eat that, but if they did know that it would get down into the cat’s stomach and irritate even the rugae, some of it passing through the lower GI tract and causing quite a bit of discomfort in passing…that’d just be horrible. It brings tears to my eyes with just thinking about that happening to a cat.
