Was Serena Crip Walk Dance Celebration Appropriate for Olympics?

Serena Williams was trusted to do America proud by representing our nation in the Olympics, but we see she decided to do the Crip Walk dance during her victory celebration.
The Crip Walk is a dance that was popularized in Southern California, by a recognized gang of the same name. The Williams sisters are from Compton, California, where the notorious rappers Snoop Doggy Dogg, Will Smith and Dr. Dre still drive around in old cars with rattling loud-music trunks, seeking out new women to turn into pregnant Obama mommas.
Should Serena Williams be doing a dance like that, celebrating the culture of Snoop Doggy Dogg (now apparently Snoop Lion) and Dr. Dre? We think it is very inappropriate.

I am so ashamed. Poor Sharapova, never thought I’d feel sorry for a commie but she must have thought she was going to get jumped.

Ummm…who’s “we”, Abe? Just kind of wondering “who” you’re speaking for. Quite honestly, if she won the match and the medal, I couldn’t care less how she celebrates. You’d be bitching a lot more if she had LOST. Just accept the win and celebrate like the rest of us.

So if she celebrated with a Nazi salute and beat RuPaul to death with a Chick-Fil-A sandwich that would be OK with you?
The Crip Walk glorifies gang violence. Serena didn’t intend to do that, but she did it and it was stupid, thoughtless and irresponsible.

Stop it, Gelding. That is just a ridiculous comparison and holds no merit in this conversation. (Talk about rhetorical.)
“Serena didn’t intend to do that, but she did it and it was stupid, thoughtless and irresponsible.”
Get over it. Most people don’t even know what “Crip Walk” is nor could they care less. Like I said:

Not as far as I’m concerned, no. But, that’s between him and the English people. He already took his share of criticism and took the blame. It’s also not a reasonable comparison.

It’s useless to even try to talk to you, Gelding. You will try to twist and fold anything to your standards.

It’s not. But, I’ll just let YOU work that one out.

Well I can’t work it out because it seems pretty darn reasonable to me.
Since you are incapable of explaining it to me we’ll just have to leave it there.
But it’s good to know that you think it’s appropriate for elite athletes to glorify murderous gangs.

You just keep telling yourself that, Gelding. Maybe if you say it enough times, you might actually be right once or twice. Just because you say I’m wrong doesn’t make it so. It makes it your opinion. Back it up and I might concede. Until then, your statement is “wrong”.

You know, I once got accused on here of begrudging others achievements and positions. Even though I don’t, it appears someone is. Why should you celebrate? Because, it’s the Olympics and not a professional tennis match. A win is a win no matter how you “choose” to look at it or who gets it.
“I don’t even like tennis.”
Fine. Let’s look at it from another perspective then. Do you like basketball, Gelding? Let’s discuss our “Dream Team”. Made up of mostly “professional” players, some of whom make millions of dollars a year. You’ll most likely never meet any of them either, yet there they are….winning and celebrating.

“Why should you celebrate? … A win is a win no matter how you “choose” to look at it or who gets it.”
That makes no sense. I should celebrate every time anyone wins anything? I should go through the back pages of the newspaper and cheer at the local golf and lawn bowls results? Or should I just cheer at every Olympic gold medal?
And no, I don’t like basketball either. I don’t begrudge the players their salaries, but I’m certainly not going to “celebrate” anybody winning a basketball match.
There are two teams. Leaving aside the odd draw or tie, one of them always wins. You may as well celebrate the toss of a coin.

It does if you include the WHOLE statement, Gelding, instead of picking and choosing what you “want” to use. I said:
“Because, it’s the Olympics and not a professional tennis match.”
“I should celebrate every time anyone wins anything? I should go through the back pages of the newspaper and cheer at the local golf and lawn bowls results?”
See my quote above and substitute the sport of your choice for “tennis”. Other than that, the questions in your statement don’t even apply to the conversation. We’re discussing the Olympics, not a “normal” competition.
“And no, I don’t like basketball either.”
Oh well, so much for THAT analogy.
“I don’t begrudge the players their salaries…”
“Why should I celebrate a multi-multi-multi millionaire who I will never even meet…”
So, it’s just Serena that you are jealous of for her income? Hmmm…
“There are two teams. Leaving aside the odd draw or tie, one of them always wins.”
Exactly and if you’re a proud American, you celebrate THEIR wins.
“You may as well celebrate the toss of a coin.”
If it means starting first will give them an advantage, you bet.

So we should celebrate Olympic medals whether we like the sports or not, just because they’re not professional and they’re not “normal” like local sports? OK, whatever…
I don’t begrudge Serena or anyone the money they make. I just don’t care. The point I was trying to make is that she’s extraordinarily rich and successful, so she doesn’t need me cheering her on. Besides, I prefer underdogs, at least until they get on top.
“Exactly and if you’re a proud American, you celebrate THEIR wins.”
Americans would do better to celebrate the Mars landing and plaster the scientists behind it all over the TV and the papers. That’s a much bigger achievement than any gold medal.
“If it means starting first will give them an advantage, you bet.”
Tell me you misunderstood that deliberately.

I understood perfectly what you were saying, Gelding. Just making light of your analogy.
“Americans would do better to celebrate the Mars landing and plaster the scientists behind it all over the TV and the papers.”
We do and we did. Well, all over the TV anyway. They got two hours of their own of “plastering”.
You’re not an American, are you, Gelding?
“Besides, I prefer underdogs, at least until they get on top.”
Ahhh, that explains a lot.
“So we should celebrate Olympic medals whether we like the sports or not, just because they’re not professional and they’re not “normal” like local sports?”
If you’re patriotic to your country, yes. If you like knowing that your country has chosen the “best of the best” to represent you in these competitions, yes.
“The point I was trying to make is that she’s extraordinarily rich and successful, so she doesn’t need me cheering her on.”
Then don’t. She also doesn’t need you shooting down her wins. Not that she cares what you think. She’s winning for our country’s team. I’m sure she has more concerns on her mind than whether or not you like or support her.

The “Crip Walk” is also offensive to the physically disabled.
For Serena to do it is in the worst possible taste and the height of insensitivity and poor timing given that the Paralympics are about to start.
She should stick around and personally apologise to every single Paralympian, then she should go to Los Angeles and apologise to all the victims of Crip gang violence.
Kudos to Brother Abe for dragging this ugly episode out into the light.

What the Hell are you talking about, Gelding? Please explain (rationally) how it is offensive to them, because I’m apparently not seeing it the way you do.
“For Serena to do it is in the worst possible taste and the height of insensitivity and poor timing given that the Paralympics are about to start.”
In poor taste, yes and she has admitted that. Insensitive? Please. That’s just ridiculous. There is nothing “mocking” or “minimizing” about it for the physically handicapped. Stop “reading into it”.
“…then she should go to Los Angeles and apologise to all the victims of Crip gang violence.”
Why? It’s become just a “dance”. The original meaning of it has been overshadowed by it’s acceptance as “just a dance” now.

“Crip” is an offensive term for “cripple”. The gang was first called the Crips because they ponced about with walking sticks.
“In poor taste, yes and she has admitted that.”
Oh, so now you do admit that it was in poor taste. Well, that’s progress.
But Serena has doubled down on the stupid by saying “I don’t care … I’m so excited I was able to do the dance. I’m glad I did it!”

Quite, Sean. It really is bizarre, the mindset they have that they must oppose absolutely everything said by anyone they perceive to be part of the Christwire flock. They tie themselves in knots every time.
What they need to do is get some integrity and concede the inarguable points. All they do by opposing absolutely everything is make themselves look dishonest and stupid.
