In a recent Senate session, Ted Cruz suggested that women be required to register for the military draft starting January, 18, 2017. This would be a radical change in the American military history for the books. The ages for the requirement would be from 18-25, just like with men who are required to register for military draft. This system has been used since World War II and Vietnam.
“The modern draft system was set up in 1948 during the Cold War. The draft proved hugely unpopular during the Vietnam War and was curtailed in 1973 with the end of America’s involvement there.”
There are of course flaws with this development in the system such as, stay at home moms who raise their children are the only care takers of them and women who are working moms who are the sole provider for their children. It would seem like the modern governing system of our country is trying to destroy nuclear families and just in general happy families by baiting their sons and daughters, husbands and wives, and even brothers and sisters into throwing their lives away for a government that doesn’t care about them as if they were just pawns.
“The Selective Service was reinstated in 1980 following the Soviet Union’s invasion of Afghanistan. The stated mission of the Selective Service is to “furnish manpower to the Defense Department during a national emergency.” The Pentagon has never called for the draft to be reinstated.”
It bothers me so much that young men and women are leaving behind their precious little families for battle and may never come home to their families again. What is the drive behind this action? What could have possibly driven them to sign their name on the dotted line in front of the recruiter and say, “Yes, here is my life. Do with it what you will. My family means nothing to me.”
Those are some questions to think about when a recruiter follows you and asks you to join the military. But, now, it is no longer a choice for women.
