That said, Marco is not a nice guy....and IT IS telling that he shows no interest in little Louisa and never sees her. Ada and David are happy and doing well until an incident at a party foreshadows trouble. Ada is in Catholic school now, but she's socially awkward with her peers and has no real friends. A lot of back and forth and immature people who seem to be in love with the idea of love and don't see the signs of trouble early enough. Before Lakshsmi left, her beloved Saas (mother-in-law) taught her how to use spices, herbs, plants, potions, and teas - as well as specially prepared foods - to heal wounds, treat illnesses, lessen anxiety, induce relaxation, aid in conception, prevent conception, induce abortion, and so on. Thus Tanner has visions of Sky whenever he falls asleep. Chronologically, the story begins in the 26th century, when Earth launches a fleet of generation starships to establish a colony on a distant planet.
