American gymnast Simone Biles has brought attention to an unfortunate situation that played out in Ireland. In a video that is now circulating worldwide, a young black gymnast can be seen standing at a medal ceremony. While all the other little girls received a medal, the black girl was passed over. The family of the young girl has been upset and admonished the sports body who offered a weak apology. Apparently, this type of thing is common in Ireland:

After the video above started to go viral and after Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles weight in, Ireland gymnastic purportedly wrote an ‘apology’ letter to the family of the girl. The letter purportedly starts with ‘With Whom it May Concern.’
The girl’s mother reported, “We are often the only black family at gymnastics events and this has been very hurtful for us,” the mother told the outlet, saying she was now worried about her family’s safety from racist backlash. Now eight million people have seen the video. From Pakistan to Ethiopia they can see this was wrong but Gymnastics Ireland still can’t accept it and say sorry.”
